MS PNP 1, can it be upgraded?

So, I just took posession of a brand new in the box pnp MS1 as part of a package deal. Can I upgrade this thing or should I just sell it off and buy an MS2 pnp or one of reverands/braineacks units? Any thoughts on this? I am leaning toward just selling it...and buying another unit.

This is for a dedicated track car btw. I am not up on all the benefits of the newer MS2 system and whether they are even necessary. If, however, I can spend a couple of hundred more dollars now and feel comfortable that I have all the options at hand the first time around, I'd rather take that route.

I'd rather just sell this now as a new item rather than use it for a while and sell it later as used.

One thing I see on the MS2 is this:

•Input for flex fuel sensor - switch between E85 and gasoline on the fly!

I do like that option...I am currently E85 only.

I also like this...(being a software guy)

•CANBus connector allows interconnection of other MegaSquirt-compatible devices for additional functions (EGT Input, Automatic Transmission Controller, Additional Sensors.....the possibilities are limitless!

This means I could theoretically write my own controllers or sensor hardware as well

Thanks

without pictures of the unit its hard to determine but as a gerneral answer:

yes it can be upgraded to MS2 by popping out the processor and dropping in the MS2 as well as changing around a few of the board mods. (when needed)

The MS1 MSPNP is a MS1 V3.57 at its core - so you could remove the processor and put in an MS2 daughter card. You will need some jumper wires changed around as well so it's not just a "unplug MS1, plug in MS2" upgrade.

Specific number on box is: MSPNP MM9495 v1.01 rev C

I am comfortable with the soldering or I can have a technician here at my office do it....sounds like that might be an option then.

I actually have my own half built MS1 that I got to the point of powering up and COM communiation and then never finished...there were too many damn options of how to configure...the soldering was the easy part...

So MSPNP1 is a V3.57 and MSPNP2 is a microsquirt, iow MSPNP1 could even be upgraded to MS3, but not MSPNP2?

For certain values of "could." We tried it as an experiment. Getting the MS3 daughter board in there requires cutting the side off the case, and trying to use an MS3X would be even harder.
