MS reliability?

The title says it all... for those of you running MS, how reliable has it been for you so far? Would you throw your wife the keys (that is, IF you allow her to drive your car) and let her drive it 45 minutes each way to work?

I really like everything it has to offer, but I am curious about the reliability factor.

depends on who put it together. if it was a professional-quality assembly, I don't see how it would be any less reliable than any other ECU.
Which is exactly why I got mine pre-assembled.;)

I've had my Megasquirt (I hate using MS as one of my friend's kids has the real MS....) running fuel, spark and idle for over a year now and I would be happy for my wife to drive my car. Hell I ask her to drive it all the time but with the full roll cage, the race seats and the rock hard suspension I'm lucky to get her in the car at all.

My Megasquirt has been totally reliable.

Good point...

I've only driven mine a few hundred miles on the MSnS fuel (havn't set up spark yet), but haven't had any trouble. Most of the problem is going to be drivability if you don't tune it right.

My MegaSquirt has been in since september, I've finally sorted all the niggles out and it's been flawless the entire time.

The most major niggle I've had (a random missfire) which i was convinced was MegaSquirt related ended up being nothing to do with the ECU.

You could call me biased... but I've put thousands of miles on multiple cars, both MS-1 and MS-II, and once I've had a system installed and tuned I've never had a failure. As someone else said most of the problems are due to lack of tuning, or goofing around with it and changing a setting that has unexpected results.

I'd let my wife drive my car anywhere, and I do sometimes though she doesn't really like to drive it anymore...

I too have found my Megasquirt to be pretty darn reliable. I just finished my second weekend of HPDE with it. No problems whatsoever! It is a bit hard to start but Im just too lazy to mess with the starting settings.

I had a heck of a time getting fuel only going last Summer and also had a hard time getting spark, but this site helped me through it. Part of my problem is that I'm running an early MS board. Once I got mine running, I would say I 'medium' tuned it, and planned to do more later. I too was afraid of reliability. Since then I have flogged it on a road course many times, and it runs great. I have a second MS and planned to configure it exactly the same so I could drop it in if I ever had a problem. Not only have I not had time to do that, I haven't had a computer with MegaTune on it for over half a year. When it's 30 degrees out it cranks longer than it should and dies a time or two right away, but I'll fix that before NEXT Winter, right! :) I just drive it and never think about MS. My wife drives it too, despite the racing seats and harnesses. She's a trooper!
