Ms1/lc1 AND narrowband errors. Please help

I searched around and found alot of people with either disagreement between their gauge and ms afr readings but nothing about my problem.

So I've had my lc1 installed and working fine for a few months. Then installed my brainbuilt ms1. Everything worked fine. Afr were around 11 if I remember correctly sometimes went as high as 14 but was fine. Car sat for a few weeks while I was back at school and I came home and went to drive it and noticed the gauge reading 8. It's an analog gauge so can't display any error codes. But according to the led it warmed up, then was good to go. Gauge stays on 8 unless I tap the throttle it cycles to 18 then when I let off goes back to 8. I checked my grounds (all soldered to a single wire that is bolted to the engine block ground location). Pulled off all electrical tape to check all my soldered connections. Checked in tunerstudios to see what it saw, Afr gauge is stuck at 11.5 which is the last reading it got. i tried free air calibration, and going into lm programmer and resetting the program to factory defaults but nothing helped. so then I figured maybe the sensor itself was bad so I installed my old stock single wire narrowband o2 sensor just to see. Switched ms to read narrowband but still no reading in tunerstudio. Now I'm thinking something could be wrong with my ms also, since it still won't display any Afr in tunerstudios with either my lc1 or my stock o2 sensor. Any suggestions?

am i missing something obvious? like can ms run off an old single wire narrowband or would it still need to be a 5 wire sensor like the wideband one too? because if it should be able to run off a single wire sensor, set to narrowband, that means my lc1 is messed up (since the gauge wasnt displaying anything and tunerstudios wasnt displaying anything for my afr) and my ms is potentially messed up too since it didnt display an afr with the single wire narrowband either.

again, to clarify, lc1 worked flawlessly for months, installed MS and it worked fine for a week or so with the lc1. car sat for a couple weeks, came back to start it and the lc1 was acting funny, and when i checked tunerstudios it was also acting funny. could something happen if my battery got too low or something? the only thing that was weird when i tried starting it again is i had to crank it a little longer than usual.

as of now, car will start and idle, boggs momentatily when i try revving it or driving it. it is driveable but it doesnt drive smooth.

Thanks for any help

  • You should have all wires soldered at the lug/ring connector.
  • What is your EGO step size? If the fuel table is decent you can make step size 0 and see how it runs. The EGO correction should never be strong enough to bandaid a 4-point AFR disparity.
  • Did you check the LC-1 settings, recalibrate, or reset it?
Start the car, and show us a screen shot of the "real time display" under "tuning" in Tuner Studio. I bet your IAT sensor is unplugged.

(zack morris's phone)

Sounds like your not outputting to the gauge correctly.

I'm obviously not outputting anything to tunerstudios ornate gauge but all connections are soldered, I crimped the ground wire to a ring and bolted it to the existing ground bolt behind the manifold. The part that confuses me is that it ran fine for weeks with ms and lc1 then randomly decided to crap out ...

I checked the lc1 settings, restored to factory settings, burned it, and did a free air calibration. No change.

Are there 3-wires going to the engine for the ground, or one? You also need to answer the other questions.

Three wires are soldered to one heavier gauge wire in the passenger compartment, then that one wire is run to the engine block.
Where can I check the EGO step size? ( I'm in a different city having to give my dad directions over the phone)
I already reset the lc1,did a free air cal, had my brother check the iat sensor but will get a screen shot put up later today

finally got some screenshots. let me know if you need to see anything else.

the last pic shows the afr gauge on 14.7, but thats just frozen that way. its not an actual reading.

Thanks

Nobody has any suggestions? Can a ms1 read a signal from a stock single wire narrowband o2 sensor? Because TS doesn't show a reading for that and I'm trying to decide if that means it is a ms problem then. But if it isn't supposed to work with a low scale o2 sensor anyways, I'll assume its just the wideband and look into replacing the sensor. Anyone know?

Braineack 08-30-2011 12:19 PM

yes, but you need to change project properties to look for a narrowband, and recalibrate the AFR settings.

rigidbigelsworth 08-30-2011 02:11 PM

So if I already did those things, and it still isn't showing any o2 reading is there something wrong with my ms too?

Any chance you would be willing to take a look at my MS if I sent it to you brain? So at least I can rule it out as a problem. I dont wanna replace the lc-1 then find out it was just a software issue and I'm just being dumb
