MS1 or MS2 for 1990 1.6?

I've done a fair bit of reading, but I'm trying to decide which Megasquirt I should go with...MS1 or MS2? The car is a 1990 Miata 1.6l and is supercharged...

Suggestions?
Thanks.

MS1 for simplicity sake

Ok...so if I take the simple route...and go with and MS1...is there any reason why I should upgrade to the 3.0 board?

Build a MS1 V3.0. That's what 99% of this forum uses for a megasquirt. Do what everybody does and when you have troubles 99% of the forum can help you. If you build a MS1 V2.2 there's one guy that used to post that runs that, so I guess you could try to run him down and bug him. Or build a MS2 V3.0, I think someone from Greece did it. Dunno who though.

You should use the 3.0 board regardless of which CPU you choose. Better ground layout, more "useful" stuff on board, and most of the instructions and mods are based upon it.

I've got my '93 running MS2 on the 3.0 board with MS2E as the software, stock CAS. It's wonderful now that I've finally gotten everything straight, but to get there was a very long process of trial-and-error and following instructions/tips from a myriad of sources. Not to mention the volumes of reading to really start to understand what's taking place.

As others have said, MS1 for an almost plug-and-play setup if you can follow directions. I chose MS2 for challenge and the extra functionality down the road. The car is also not my daily driver. That's made a huge difference in my success. It can sit "broken" for an indefinite period of time.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Thanks to all for the advice...I'll heed all warnings and choose to go with the charted course...for my first try with MS.

I'm curious to your spark/tach mods on the board, I'm considering going to MSII next winter for a project.

It ended up being pretty straight-forward but took a lot of figuring to make it work. I basically used DIY's Miata write-up for the spark outputs via the two LEDs. CAS input was done by following the MS2-Extra docs for a 4/2 CAS. I used the opto-isolator on the 2nd input circuit, but there are others that say it's unnecessary.

The biggest hurdle was discovering that I needed to wire the injectors to four separate pins on the factory connector to get all four injectors to fire. It ran on 2 cylinders, but barely and that caused a whole lot of tail chasing. I likely have a non-federal engine (it was swapped sometime before I owned it) and it took thebeerbaron's suggestion to try and wire up all 4 before it ran worth anything.

I'm sure there are a few little things I had to do that I can't remember now, but following the two major write-ups should get you very close. I didn't have to do anything fancy with the tach. I think the 1.8s begin the necessity for that mod.
