MS1 v3.0 Parallel Wiring

Anyone know of any wiring diagrams/pinouts for wiring the db37 connector for ms1 in parallel with the stock ecu? Going off of this thread https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-sa...diagram-32161/ but it appears to be for standalones...

And im using the wiring bundle from diy autotune. Opted not to buy a prebuilt harness MegaSquirt Wiring Bundle - 23" Long DIYAutoTune.com

why parallel? why MS1?

gdoehl 08-06-2013 01:03 PM

Parallel in case I move to an emissions state. MS1 because its cheaper than the other options and I am still in school so $$$ is an issue.

gdoehl 08-06-2013 01:04 PM

Keeping AC is the main reason because I live in Florida and it is HOT here

Braineack 08-06-2013 01:10 PM

with that in mind:

why parallel? why ms1?

I realize that it is possible to run ac with a standalone ms. I do not want to complicate things though since this is my first go around with tuning for megasquirt and miatas (I am from the Honda crowd). This..https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...t-c-faq-20954/ looks complicated and I don't want to overcomplicate things especially for my first build. If there is a simple way for mt noobs to do this then I am all ears and in that case it would definitely make more sense to go the standalone route.

Alternator control would be tco since I am using an na alternator, but that still leaves issues with fan and idle control..which I would rather leave up to the stock computer.

Running MS1 is the complication. Running Parallel is the complication.

The stock ecu is a POS, you don't want to leave ANYTHING up to it.

buy a DIYPNP and assemble it. It will meet the following criteria: Pass emissions, cheap, A/C, not complicated.

I honestly need to delete all references to MS1 write-ups from this site and the wikidot.

gdoehl 08-06-2013 01:38 PM

 I already built the ms1 board from the diyautotune kit....should I sell it? Is it really that shitty is comparison to the newer diypnp stuff?

gdoehl 08-06-2013 01:39 PM

I did find a pinout by the way Wiring and Sensors

gdoehl 08-06-2013 01:39 PM

Figure I could at least complete the ms and then contemplate selling it

gdoehl 08-06-2013 01:44 PM

Well I could salvage what I have by upgrading to ms2....but that is an addition 100 for the chip CPU - MegaSquirt-II Daughterboard DIYAutoTune.com

What year/engine are you working with?

A parallel install is easier in some ways, but it does add a lot of aggravating difficult-to-diagnose complications. MS1 can run the car, but my experience so far on my '97 is that it's a bit too simple/crude to get a refined tune that you don't have to frequently tweak. Which is why I am going to be switching to MS3, in parallel to start off with but planning to shift most if not all control to the MegaSquirt eventually.

gdoehl 08-06-2013 10:55 PM

90' 1.6 miata. Ended up going the parallel route and was able to wire up the 64 pin side of the boomslang with the guide here: I dont understand MS - Page 3 - Miata Forumz - Mazda Miata Chat Forums. Yeah I have heard that about ms1, specifically with the issues it can cause with a rough idle. Really just looking for something that can run the car for now as $$$ is an issue..eventually planning on upgrading to ms2 as I heard that will run the car much better and just requires replacing the ms1 processor with the ms2 one. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone have any idea where pin 36 on the db37 connector for an ms-1 goes? I for the life of me can not figure this out. On the assembly diagram Assembly Guide - MegaSquirt(R) V3.0 Main Board it says it goes to icm...but on the pinout reference diagram for a 90-93 http://www.hackedecu.com/wp-content/...CU_Pinouts.jpg there are multiple ignition inputs/outputs. I'm having trouble determining which ignition input/output this would go to.

Again, Im referencing this guide I dont understand MS - Page 3 - Miata Forumz - Mazda Miata Chat Forums for pinouts...I see that he wired one of the igntion inputs from iac pin 4 on the assembly diagram but since there are two coils that would leave wiring for the other coil and my best guess is that that would come from pin 36? It would be awesome if anyone could shed light on this.

Braineack 08-07-2013 05:25 PM

2O

then jump that pin to ground in the AFM connector.

unless you are keeping the AFM, then you don't need pin 36.

i dunno why youre not using my writeups...cause they tell you that.

gdoehl 08-07-2013 05:35 PM

Which writeups? I searched for over an hour and couldnt find anything..are you talking about https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-sa...squirt-13676/?

Im replacing the afm with the gm iat kit from diyautotune. For wiring that in would I keep the afm connections in the stock harness for since the wiring for the iat would come from the pigtail in the afm? Using joes old write up for that AFM Removal from the 1.6 liter Miata using eManage Ultimate

gdoehl 08-07-2013 05:39 PM

Thank you by the way been pulling my hair out over wiring lol

Which write ups are you referring too? I have read most of your stuff religiously and am currently looking for a parallel or something option for a 96. I love your work and would love a point in the right direction. I need to pass the obd2 plugin test. Im close to just doing a ls3 swap but would love to keep the car pure with the addition of a turbo.
