MS2 wont flash
So i got my new MS2 built and i used my old MS2 daughter board. I went over the whole build before i even powered it up. Everything looked good, so i powered it up and everything seamed good. The lights flash once when i turn the key on. So i take it everything is good, so i try and flash the ms2 but no matter witch way i try to flash it i cant get the MS2 to communicate.
Any one know why my ms2 is not communicating? |

Boot jumper in? |
yes boot jumper in.
The three led only flash when i turn the key from off to run. They only flash once very quickly. |
Could my daughter board be bad?
You need to do the serial loopback test that are called out in the build manual to try to rule in/out what could be wrong, but with the way I understand that you had grounded your MS2 through the EDIS module, I wouldn't be surprised if the processor is fried.

I tried that test before i posted so im guessing my daughter board is no good.

Here is a screen shot of what i get every time i try to flash MS2.
Okay i got a new daughter board and check everything over and over more time then you could shack a stick at, and still no flash. WTF What could be wrong matt went over my wiring and i fixed a few small things, the ecu looks fine no burning or any of that but still cant get it to flash. I tried 2 laptops and 1 desktop still nothing.
lars would get that same reaction on a mac. used my pc and it flashed instantly.
Braineack, Anyway i could send you my MS2 and have you flash it for me so this way i know it works???

What data cable are you using what os? |
prolific usb to serial with a serial from diy and XP.
Okay anyone know what could be wrong??? I went over the board with a multimeter and everything reads good power, grounds, resistors, diodes, and capacitors. Could i have a faulty bored? I have tried other laptops and desktops just using the serial cable.
Matt anyway i could mail you my MS2 and have you guys look at it? Its the last part i need for my car i have everything done besides this MS. |
Okay if i power up the MS2 and i check for power i have no power at the daughter board on the square pin.
That's pin 1 (Vsyn). Should be easy to trace back:

The link you have posted wont doesn't load.
Now the image works.
Just went over the board again and found i dont get any readings from r23 no voltage or resistances.
Also seams to only have 0.19volts on the daughter board. Could this resistor be the problem? |
R23 is in the clock circuit which the MS-II doesn't use, as it has it's own crystal on the underside of the board.
Were should i be looking???????????
Have you checked for 5V, 12V and ground on all the CPU socket pins as detailed in the build manual?
Yes and i have none of those i checked for power at u5 also and that has 0v.
So there's no 12V supply into your MS at all?
C15 has 12v, mov1 has 12v, d11 has 12v, d10 has 12v, d12 has 0v, c16 has 0v, d9 has 0v, and u5 has 0v.
So check all the components that don't have voltage....
Im not sure what you mean?
You either have a diode in backwards or a faulty part pulling your 5V line to ground. Check all the components you just listed which should have voltage but don't for orientation, then remove them until the 5V line comes up. Obviously removing U5 will stop the 5V line coming up.
I check all my diodes banded sides are were they should be.
Start checking the components then
What should i check for with the componets. Im new at this stuff. =/ sorry.
Okay i went and to my best of knowledge im thinking d10 is bad. When i try and get a voltage reading from D10 i only see 12v on one side. The side i see no voltage on is the banded side.
Sounds reasonable enough. Try swapping it out
should all my black silver band diodes have power on both sides?
I changed it out for a new diode no change but if i check for power at sc12 its there but there is no power at sc12c.
What is wrong with this POS.

Okay i just tested all my diodes and all of them check to be good.
If i plug the MS2 into my car and power it up i get power at the MS2 daughter board. So now WTF IM SO SICK OF THIS FUCKING SHIT BY THE TIME ILL HAVE GOTTEN A MS THAT WORKS I COULD HAVE GOTTEN AN AEM. WTF
Okay very good news i got my MS2 to flash it took some hard finding but turns out my usb to db9 is dead even tho it passed the test. everything on the ecu wroks thanks everyone for the help.

winsauce! :winner: |
Glad you got it working. Sounds like you might have been connecting up your power supply in reverse polarity, that'd explain the lack of voltage on the bench but voltage present in the car
From what i can guess the power i was putting to the MS 12 volts but not enough amps.
Nope. If you had power on one side of D10 but not the other, but it works fine in your car then you must have had your power supply hooked up backwards.
