MS2 won't start.

Running into a big issue with this MS2, and I have shop time scheduled in 6 days!!! Translation: I need to get this up and fast.

Here is what I know:

It runs fine off of the stock ECU. No problems.
Brain(tm)-built Harness
Brain(tm)-checked over MS2
Brain said it worked fine from a stim when he had it last a week ago.
Boots fine, burns fine, detects everything from sensors fine.
Fuel pressure checks out, fuel pump is on.
Trying to start from a map that worked a few weeks ago doesn't work.
Trying to start from the Brain(tm) provided basemap doesn't work.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be vastly appreciated.

Attached are the current tune and log (I believe, at least) from startup.

Swapped the stock ECU in, and confusingly, now it starts up on the first crank on the stock ECU. I've never had that happen before.

I'm at a loss now after banging my head out on this all day. Am I at a place where it's "Send it to someone else to diagnose", or what?

Gotta figure out if not getting spark and/or fuel on ms first

Fuel pressure is correct, fuel pump is on, MS claims it is seeing 9.3ish PW's. How does one test for fuel beyond that? Wet plugs?

(zack morris's phone)

Yeah or the spark and fuel test modes and listen for activity on each

All right. After a lot of testing, 99% certain fuel is injected, but no spark is made.

Next step?

Try increasing fuel in cranking and after start enrich. My fruend did that to the base map from diy and the car started. Are u running seq or batch inj? I made a mistake and had setings kn batch when itneded to be seq.

The basemap was formerly working perfectly. Are you certain that messing with a basemap that had working fuel values is necessary? I am confident that the issue is spark-related, and not fuel as my spark tests have indicated that it is a problem with spark.

Did you ruin the ignitor?

The Miata runs perfectly on a stock ECU as noted previously - I just drove it home on the stock ECU, even. If it runs on the stock ECU, could it be a ruined igniter?

no, I'm a tard for not reading more. Post up your ignition settings.

Correct .ini file if using tunerstudio.

My .msq should be in the first post - attached is a screenshot of a copy of my backup of my tune as stored on my NAS.

All .ini files I am using are automatically detected by Tuner Studio.

No, if it's working on the stock ecu, it's working on the MS. Unless you want to swap ECUs after every attempt to verify the ignitor is working, I'd move on to other things. It only blows while burning firmware, not while burning a .msq.

Has spark been verified with MS? Don't use one or two plugs, I want all four plugs sitting on the valve cover while cranking. Tell us which ones aren't firing. If they all are, it's most likely timing related.

Going outside to try this right now, and I'll be sure to include video for you guys to mock and tell me I'm a moron for. Be back in ~15 mins with it.

I think spark is supposed to be going high (inverted)

Brain assured me that was the proper setting for my MS2. However, I've tried both inverted and normal.

Curly, I have a video being uploaded now of no spark on all 4 plugs on the valve cover.

blaen99 07-13-2011 12:24 AM

Video of setting with going low (normal) on the MS2. I can swap to going high (inverted) however and provide a video with that if someone believes this will change the results

Well I was going to verify you had them well grounded, but I can't see a damn thing. You should be able to see a spark with the light on, if that's what you're worried about.

Miata's outside and I'm in my boxers, otherwise I wouldn't of used my bike.

I have the threaded ends set against the valve cover. What more do I need to do to ensure they are well-grounded? It's rather dark here, so anything is going to be hard to see via video now.

curly 07-13-2011 12:36 AM

Oh shit, you're actually on my coast, who knew.

Most likely CAS wiring related, if the stock ECU works, the MS is apparently not telling the coils to fire, either between the MS->CAS connection, or CAS->coils connection. Forget how to check, ask the wise(r) ones.
