MS3 basic knock control

I have started to add some spark timing into my base map. I ran a log to check for knock and had some activity that I am not sure if it is just noise or something more. I checked each cylinder, knock retard and knock in. Max for any cylinder was 10.x% with no knock retard. Cruise and idle I believe were ~3%.

I haven't changed any settings for knock control. At what point does the noise become actual knock? Is it when the MS3 pulls timing and logged via the knock retard? I am not trying to find MBT this way. I am just looking to gain some power without running all of it.

I am looking into det cans. Trying to decide between mechanical or electronic. I have never used them before, so any input would be appreciated.

It won't tell you if you have knock unless you've already tuned the settings, you need to decide that for yourself in a log.

With detcans, log a knock free run to redline, that's your baseline for no knock / noise levels.

Now carefully introuduce a bit of knock with too much timing, use detcans so you can tell as soon as it's starting.

When you look at the log, you'll see spikes where the knock occurred, that's the point you want to tune the MS to step in and retard the timing.

^^ This is assuming you have a Rev built unit, or the add on MS3 knock board.

Yes, it is a rev built ms3.

I made some mechanical det cans and can't hear much. I am going to have to look into building a set of electronic with volume control. I are old and def.

I tied the bypass open and logged it and got high 8%, so pretty close to the run with boost. I bumped the timing up some more and logged again and no change from original of ~10%.

As soon as I can figure out how to post my ign table, I will put it up for some lulz. Feel free to make fun or provide criticism.

Hopefully this worked.

Mechanical det cans working much better now. I used one of the bolts that holds the engine mount to the block. It is loud enough now, that I can hear the knock.

Now to draw in the knock input threshold to around where I logged and heard the knock.
