Ms3 basic trackspeed flex sensor

Which wire do I hookup the flex sensor to on the pigtail. Have ethanol Guage on tunerstudio but no joy. Guage doesn't move. I have a ms3 basic and a 2000 miata. Have it plumbed with no leaks. Thanks in advance. Just one wire left to hook up.

Savington 11-06-2016 11:42 PM

Flex input is pin 26 on the DB37. If I recall, the setting needs to be enabled in the software before the ethanol content gauge will start working.

akcable 11-07-2016 04:26 PM

Got the wire soldered to pin 26. Make sure you look at the sensor itself and check the wire locations for sensor output, ground, and vcc. Very small lettering on the flex sensor itself. Might need a magnifying glass. My power, sensor, and Vcc were in different than those on the megasquirt page on flex fuel. Working great with outputs for ethanol content and temp. Thanks.

I am tuning ve1 for straight e85. I had to change the advance to 0 in flex fuel settings to get the car to startup. The original setting was -13 of advance. I am planning to do table blending when I finish my e85 tune. I'll post my . msq here for your input. Thanks.

1. Dial everything on gasoline and save your tune.
2. Install the flex fuel sensor and set Baseline Ethanol% to the value you get with "100% gas" (in CA this was ~8% for me)
3. Turn on flex fuel, but leave all the alternate maps off. This just leaves the global blend, but doesn't allow blending between VE1/VE3 (or Spark 1/Spark3, etc)
4. Drain the tank and fill it with E85. Tune the spark/fuel, AFR target, ASE/WUE/Accel maps, and all the other maps that have switching available in the software. Tuning all these maps on VE1 will let you use Autotune like you normally would. Put a few tanks of raw E85 through the car to get the content up as high as you would ever see it, and make sure the tune is dialed in.
5. Load the set of E85 maps into the alternate map positions, load your gas maps from step 1 into the primary positions, and turn table switching on. Set the flex blend curve so that the ECU switches over to the alternate maps by 80%EC
6. At this point, you're about 95% of the way there. The only setting left to dial in is the flex blending map, and that will happen by trial and error with varying levels of ethanol content in the fuel.

Have you considered doing gas then E85 to get the global flex multiplier right before you tune an E85 map? That way you'll be able to use your E85 map in VE3 without rescaling it.

Savington 11-07-2016 05:17 PM

As Albert said, you really need to start with a near-perfect gas VE1 table before you start tuning on E85. Any future tweaks you do on the gas map will change your E85 tune as well, which is what you want to avoid.

akcable 11-08-2016 12:26 AM

I have completed an 91 octane ve1 map with ignition advance and Ve tuned fuel table. In the process of tuning

akcable 11-08-2016 12:30 AM

In the process of tuning e85 on auto tune now. Runs nice and usually starts on one key turn. I was planning on moving the e85 table to ve3 position and using my already tuned 91 octane to take ve1 space. Then turn sensor on and have it blend between the two tables depending on what sensor indicates. Thanks for your time.

akcable 11-08-2016 12:32 AM

Your input please.

afm 11-08-2016 01:06 AM

Flex fuel has a global fueling curve based on ethanol %. It's a more specific mode than just table blending. If you flip on FF with an E85 tune copied to VE3, you'll start running way rich because VE3 will be tuned without the global modifier. Of course, these problems are fixable, but if you don't have E85 yet, follow this instruction before you tune your E85 map:

It just makes it easier for you to move through the steps.

OK will redo my e85 tune. I have a couple of questions. On my tuned 91 octane map I have adjusted my ignition timing by +10 degrees all alround. When I use that table to start to get a tuned e85 table will the flex sensor add timing to it? Will it adjust to how much advance I input in the flex fuel section? Is +13 advance a good number to put in there? Thanks for all your invaluable help guys.

afm 11-08-2016 10:53 AM

The flex fueling curve does not intrinsically have to add timing. You want to add spark through actual table blending.

People have E85 timing maps (Google with site:miataturbo.net). Reading those threads would be a good place to start. Although it's harder to break something with E85, do 10x more reading than copying to play it safe.

On the other hand, if you use the "forum dyno" to help on a gas map, you may break your car because you're on 91.

Edit: there's no reason why you can't use the linear timing addition from ethanol percentage, which is what it sounds like you're asking. I didn't, and if you do you won't be able to copy e85 spark maps.

akcable 11-08-2016 11:57 AM

Just to make sure how do you turn off alternate maps so I can make sure everything is being tuned on ve1 only. Thanks again.

akcable 11-13-2016 12:22 PM

On e85 do you mess with req fuel?

On TS there is a setting in general where you can change your injector settings and chanhe the Afr setting from 14.7 to 9.7. would I need to do that and tune or can I just leave it alone and and just and 30-40% across the Ve table. Thanks.

Savington 11-13-2016 05:00 PM

Leave that alone

akcable 11-18-2016 09:51 PM

11mpg on e85 could it be my timing?

Just calculated my gas mileage after arunning a few gallons through. 11mpg. My timing is advanced by 15 degrees all around. Could advance timing like this lead to poor gas mileage? Thanks.

Savington 11-19-2016 12:25 AM

What dyno testing did you do to determine that 15 degrees was the appropriate amount of advance? (hint: this is a trick question)

On my gas ignition map, I get ~15mpg on E85 (~21mpg on gas).

I would encourage you to re-evaluate your tuning strategy on E85. Start over, basically, and follow the instructions I posted above.

Getting tune at VL Motorsports in Livermore

At the shop in Livermore, CA getting a tune with Richard. I just finished the m45 SC install on my 2000 NB. A few weeks ago I completed my E85 sensor. We are tuning a MS3 Basic from Trackspeed. Will post up results from dyno. Will be on a dynopack. Stock 1.8, stock rad, stock injectors, stock fuel pump. Lets see how we turn up :)

Savington 01-04-2017 02:01 PM

Stock injectors, stock fuel pump, an M45, and E85? You'll get to about 5000rpm and 140whp before the injectors max out.

akcable 03-01-2017 10:13 PM

Sorry late reply. We replaced the e85 with 91 and tuned with stock injectors and stock fuel pump. The car made 120whp on dynopack. In the mean time I have installed bigger rad, Rx injectors 460, and the larger e85 walbro fuel pump. I will be ordering a small nose pulley from Gary at tdr tomorrow.

I wish I made 140😥. The tuner said my heat was coming up using the stock rad and the stock 2000 NB injectors at 90℅ was keeping me at 120hp.

Hopefully when I get the pulley we can make 150 whp on e85. Hopefully the bigger rad, injectors, fp will help also.

This is a California car and even thou I have the jrsc carb sticker underneath the hood I hope to just switch out the megasquirt with the stock ECU to pass smog here.

Thoughts and recommendations please?

hector 03-04-2017 07:18 AM

Non-boosted stock 1.8 NB's make 140whp all the time on Dynojet's with I/H/E and aftermarket ecu. With e85 I've seen 160whp, 130wtq with the same mods.

It's not fair or wise to compare different dyno's, however. And I dunno what you have for exhaust but I remember reading the cali 99-00 cars had the worst (and heaviest) exhaust ever installed on a miata. It would suck to have to keep that for emissions purposes.

But yeah, stock injectors and no rising rate fuel regulator and boost on e85 is not gonna go very far. Surely you'll see big improvements.

akcable 03-29-2017 11:46 AM

It made 140 HP and 125 torq

Got it back on dyno and with the fuel pump, rx7 injectors, and new 2 row radiator. 140hp! I have the ddm Cai for the jrsc, the smallest pulley, and tdr header blanket to go on next. Would like to get 150hp on this daily driver. It really feels and sounds nice right now. And that 140hp is on e85. Will update when I hit the dyno again after I get the parts on.

Help with output settings in megasquirt!!!

Guys I was messing around with the ac control and ac idle up. What are the default settings for fan control. Is it inj E for the output pin? Also in the Programmable on/off outputs what settings and active conditions do you have there?

I also need the default settings for ac idle up. Idle out is inj F and idle up input I have tableswtich? Also what setting do you have in your Programmable on/off inputs?

My ac stays on even when the ac button is depressed off!? Also I notice the main fan coming on only. I can change the setting in the Programmable on/off to turn the AC on too but when I shut of the car the fan kept running too. Spent till 2am and gave up. Can't get to new parts putting on till I get the inputs and outputs figured. When I boot into tuner studio it states that I have a config error.
This is a trackspeed bought ms3 basic running on 1.5 FW and latest ultra TS version.

Thanks in advance. Screen shot would be nice. Is it true my version is built by Reverent?
