MS3 Diy parts selection
 

I'm looking to build my own MS3 for my 2000.
I'm unsure if my current plan will work, so figured I'd ask here.
My current plan would be to purchase the MS3 daughterboard and case from DIYAutotune.
Then to take care of the mainboard and the rest of the components, I would purchase it from Westfield MX5 with their offering of basic parts, Mazda connector and the MPX4250 map sensor.
Now in theory wouldn't this take care of all the basic parts to build an MS3 to run a boosted Miata?

EDIT - Just realized that the Westfield MX5 board is only for the MS3 Pro Module. Which I do not believe to be compatible with the daughterboard.
If anyone knows of a way however to get a MS3 mainboard with the denso connector please feel free to let me know.

Correct, that is for the MS3pro module. Which is a good way to go if you want the connector right on the ECU case.

Westfield also has a write up on how to do an MS3+MS3x install with the ECU connector built into the case.

Is there any reason you want the connector built in, rather than a little jumper harness?

I just wanted the simplicity really of having the wiring for the harness connector on a PCB.
I'm going to buy the MS3 kit first, and then see if buying the DIYBOB kit is worth it.
Is it possible to wire up the harness to the jumper harness without removing the wiring harness from the car? I'm assuming it would pretty cramped, but possible with enough patience.

Get the DIYBOB. Doing wiring in the car sucks. Plus if you ever wanted to go back to the stock ecu or sell the MS3, you just unplug/plug as opposed to cutting it out.

That is extremely helpful, thank you. If I choose not to go with the MS3x, can I just stop at the step before you install the expansion board?

You are stupid to not go with the expansion board. IE you will have to figure out how to build all the random circuits you need from scratch on the board, and good luck with that.

I tried to convince him to get his turbo from you or at least get the one you use in your kits too.

I mean I was a broke college kid at one point in time. I built my MS1 in my dorm room by following the megamanual, and mods that we had figured out on mt.net. It sucked horribly and I don't wish that onto anyone. Especially with a lot of that information be 10 years old now and hard to find if you are even able to find it.

I know. I've been trying to convince him to buy a used MS2 Enhanced if he can swing that.

That said, an MS2 is far better than an MS1, no? Headache at time, sure, but workable from everything I've read on here. It's not a daily.

That said, I'm trying to convince him to wait a bit longer and get the MS3 stuff.

If he really wants to get a setup off the ground for cheap, I'd listen to Mr. Brain.
