ms3 or diypnp

Friend of mine has a DiyPNP, now I've have to say its a very nice item with the stock connector for his bmw. Now I'm interested in the ms3 seeing it has more options and cost less than a diypnp at diyautotune.com

From what I know the diypnp is a ms2 chip and I"m not sure if it can be upgraded to ms3 easily or at all.

I also see this item called the ms3x which seems to be an addon to the ms3 setup, what does this offer over the standard ms3 setup

Is there any reason other than making it easier to hook the MS into the connector for getting a diypnp over a ms3 right now, or should I save my monies and grab a ms3 instead of the diypnp?

thoughts?

That should answer most of your questions about ms3 vs ms2 vs ms3+ms3x.

the MS3 is only cheaper if bought unassembled. then you must build a harness and custom circuits to make it work.

cost/benefit, the DIYPNP wins.

awesomeness, the MS3 plus MS3X board running seq fuel and spark wins.

If i had know the ms3 was going to come out so soon after the diypnp, I would have waited for the ms3. A big bonus is the datalogging via SD card. As brain pointed out, the seq spark and fuel is also nice. I had to undo my seq spark to run my fan and vics. There are not enough outputs on the diypnp imo.

Go MS3

That being said, my diypnp works awesome.

There isn't really a good way to get a DIYPNP to be an MS3 as it uses the MicroSquirt Module. The DIYPNP was designed around the module since it packs a lot of circuits into a small PCB.

any possibility of a MS3-type diypnp?

The DIYBOB is something we came up with for people who want to build home-brew but professional looking PNP MS3 systems with parts available now (we just had to ask our case supplier for a shorter DIYPNP case, so it wasn't too much work to build...).

The V3.0 board wasn't really intended to be dropped into a larger ECU assembly the way the MicroSquirt Module was, and it definitely wouldn't work sideways in the DIYPNP case (we tried). We haven't ruled out finding a way to make an MS3 DIYPNP happen, but right now this is only "something we might try" after we finish up with several other projects.
