MS3 Pro PNP knock sensor

Greetings,

I'm swapping intakes now, and also installing the new injectors for my FM turbo installation. The plan is to make sure I get the tuning converted to the new injectors and intake before installing the turbo. I've found that my stock knock sensor (2001) has oozed it's internal goo, so I'm considering replacement of the sensor with either new, or aftermarket. A few questions:

1- Once the sensor looses it's goo (sealant?) is it still working normally, or does it need to be replaced? I've heard people say it's fine, but that was based on not throwing codes on an stock ECU. I don't think that guarantees it's working, only that the ECU believes it's installed.

2- I understand that the stock knock sensor will work with the MS3 Pro PNP, so that's probably the easiest option. Is there an aftermarket sensor that will work better, or is the stock sensor as good as it needs to be? If I install an aftermarket sensor, are there any with the same threads, or will it need to be adapted, or installed somewhere else?

3- For the stock sensor (or aftermarket if recommended), can someone recommend starting values for the knock detection setup?

Thanks,
Rusty

As a quick follow up. I removed the sensor and tested it in every way I can think of, and mine is dead. I also found a note on the FM site saying they use the NB stock sensor for their aftermarket ECU installations, so I'm going to assume there's no reason not to stick with the stock type. I ordered a replacement, and will have it Friday.

The knock sensor certainly appears to be working, but I'm not really sure what to make of all the various settings for it. I mostly left everything at the defaults, and it appears my engine can see up to about 30 for knock when I'm fairly certain there isn't any. I set the trip point at 35, and it has stepped in a few times when higher numbers appear. Best I can tell, it's doing what it's supposed to do.
