Default ms3pro Fan Control Help!

car: 1996 miata powered by a Brain built ms3pro on a frankenstein board... 1.8 with +1mm valves, 9.5:1 83.5mm pistons, coolant reroute, id1000 injectors, toyota cop conversion and a turbosnail. running a single driver side main fan (doesnt work from the ms3pro). Using the ms3 1.4.1 firmware and ms3x base map from trubokitty.com. Got the car to start and idle, although its lean it idles ok.

problem: the single driver side main fan is not getting turned on by the megasquirt. the relay tested fine, when grounding out in the diag box it will work. Before megasquirt and engine rebuilt I had the fans set up in parallel with a jumper cable at the ecu between main fan and ac fan wires. I removed the jumper wire when I swapped in the ms ecu. Got the car to start and idle, although its lean, it idles ok. I havent driven the car, just trying to get some more stuff figured out first. Included is a screenshot of my fan and INJ G settings, they do not activate fan at any temp setting... so far. As far as I am aware the FAN CONTROL will control the ac fan and the INJ G is to tune the main fan. Please lend me a hand in getting this figured out as I have tried everything other than changing the thermister, because its tough to do with the coolant reroute in place.

The reason Im using only one fan is that I do not have ac and the intercooler piping doesnt fit with the ac fan in place. I havent tried putting the ac fan back in place and seeing if that would get the fans to activate, not sure why it would though because they are independently wired.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I would get a multimeter and check continuity between the Injector G output and the pin at the fan connector. Then do the same for Stepper Out 1. I think there is probably some sort of wiring issue. Settings look alright.

Grounding off the main fan wire right before the ecu (where i had spliced for the parallel fan mod ((its taped with electrical tape now)) results in the fan kicking on. So the wiring there is okay. Im not sure where stepper out 1 pin would be but i will look over the diagrams to find it and try the same. Thanks for the suggestion.

DIYAutoTune MS3Pro so YMMV but Inj I controls the AC Fan for me.

Are you sure your have your outputs setup properly? Mine were incorrectly set on my basemap. Try using output test mode to verify...

I will try the out put test mode when i get to work tomorrow. I do not have an AC fan, but the only active output I have displayed is INJ G. From the reading Ive done, Brain seems to have his FAN connected to INJ G. I will attempt the test mode and update tomorrow. Thanks

WHY OH WHY did you overwrite the firmware? and why did you overwrite the basemap that was loaded on your unit with one that has NO business on a ms3 module?

not only are the fans wrong now, but probably many other inputs/outputs as well as being on an older firmware for no reason.

You need to reflash this unit with 1.5.1 and reload the basemap that was LOADED ON THE UNIT CONFIGURED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR CAR AND MS3! (Email me for the tune if you cant recover it from your project history)

I'm honestly surprised the car even runs right now.

so today i installed the 1.5.1 firmware and loaded it in to the ms3pro. when setting up a project a message popped up saying "tunerstudio does not have a configuration to support found firmware ms3 1.5.1 release" so i clicked "OTHER" and uploaded the "ms3pro.ini" file. Calibrated all the settings and set the fixed timing. I was able to get the car to idle a bit richer because it was idling super lean.

But the temperature went all the way up to 225 on the gauge and on the ms3 and the main fan did not kick on. I left the settings as told by Brain. Im lost at this point.

thanks everyone for the help so far

try switching fan from INJ J to PWM out 2 on the programmable outputs. Just copy all the values over to it -- I may have misread my documents. a/c fan working?

I do not have an ac fan, I am running only the main fan. So far I have tried disabling the INJ J in the on/off outputs and enableing it in the fan control setting thinking that it would ignore the ac fan and only control the main fan from the fan control window. But the temperature rose well above the preset 190 degrees and fan did not kick on. I will try to run the PWM out 2 as the fan control in the on/off prog output. Ideally I would like to just control the main fan from the FAN CONTROL window, and leave AC fan settings off since I dont have one in place.

Thanks
Artie

you can do that, just make sure the programmable output is deactivated, and then just use the fan control settings page -- try using pwm out 2 and report back. ( you can test by lowering the activation temperature and not having to wait for the car to overheat ;P )

Great success, i set the FAN CONTROL to PMW out 2 and the temp down low with the motor off, the fan kicked right on!

Thanks for the help, im sure ill be posting more as I get to tuning and driving.
