MSII V3 question
 

All the notes i've been taking have been for the MSI so now i'm
looking for other users on here running the Daughterboard instead of
the black processor.

I'm not quite finished building mine because i got stuck on some questions, I'll revice what steps I've skipped and post. I get communication, the gauges on the laptop react to the stimulator so i'm on the right way, i just don't know if this one Mods like the MS1 and if the harness for this one is different. I need pics if anyone has some...

OK, i want to control fuel and ignition, I'm not sure
but i want to get rid of the AFM if possible and i don't
want to use the MSD timing retard unless i have to.

First Questions,
1) Do i want to use PWM idle valve?
2) Do I populate the high-current ignition driver circuit?

If you are controlling timing then you can't trigger from the coils or it would be a chicken and egg problem. :)

1) Yes, use PWM with the bigger TIP122 transistor. (full disclosure: I'm still letting the stock ECU control idle air)
2) No, don't build the high current circuit as described in the Mega manual.
3) You cannot control 4cyl wasted spark ignition with the instructions in the Mega manual. The sentence you quoted is assuming a distributor and a single coil. What it really wants is a pulse for every ignition event. The cam/crank angle sensor can provide this. Verify this with another 93 owner but set your board up as Hall sensor in step 50.

You have several interesting options to you for controlling spark w/ MSII, but all of them involve unknown territory.
MSII Extra should be out in a month or two.
The current beta code (2.86) can do 4 cyl wasted spark but the instructions are indecipherable. http://www.microsquirt.info/dualspark.htm
(Just checked; it looks like they were updated a few days ago but I haven't read them yet.)
I used a simple circuit with a D flip/flop and an NAND gate to split the spark to the two coils. If you're interested I can explain further.

Removing the AFM won't be a problem with any version of Megasquirt.

As of right now, MS 1 is the better option. Better code base and a lot more support both on this form and elsewhere. There is a lot of cool stuff in the pipeline for MS2, though.

Just read the new "dual spark" instructions for the MSII beta. It still isn't exactly paint by numbers but it looks like you would want option 2a. This is the line that bothers me:

"The additional ignition input is taken from the Injector 1 PWM processor pin and the second ignition output comes from the Injector 2 PWM pin."

Don't we only need one new input for the cam signal? Are they talking about pins 21 and 22 on the daughter board? Don't I (we) need those for fuel? It makes no sense. It is near midnight, though. I could just have the dumb.

MS2/Extra actually came out just this weekend. The documentation is a bit sketchy right now, but here it is:

I'm getting closer to the date of installing my turbo and my MSII isn't ready... (i'm freaking out, hahaha) anyway for the wiring harness what should i do? I'm thinking about buying the harness they have here http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...eady-p-43.html

Don't underestimate the wiring harness!

It's sounding like you will be the first to tackle MS2/extra. You might not want a pre-built harness unless you're sure of the pin-outs. DIY sells wiring bundles in 12' lengths. Essentially the same parts but if a change is needed you can make it easily.

You might also consider a 93 Miata specific patch harness if you're wiring MS in parallel w/ the ECU. Boomslang makes one. There's another company, too, but I can't remember the name. (Autosport?). The DIY harness gets wired into the patch harness and you plug the patch harness between the stock harness and the ECU.

I feel stupid but i gotta ask...
VR-Variable Reluctor, it says to populate the area and make the selection via jumpers. (step#50) well i've done the Hall jumpers but i'm wondering should i solder the resistors in the VR steps?

and the "IAC stepper Motor"
I'm still trying to see if this applies to our cars in any way.

I'll start wiring this Monday if weather permits, lol...

The VR circuit details should be left out. We don't have an IAC stepper motor, we have an IAC solenoid valve.
