MSLabs CAS Input and Ignition Timing

1 Attachment(s)
I am a little baffled by my new ECUs spark and fuel outputs work as well as how I should be configuring the CAS input. My car is a 95 with a built 1.8 and BP05 head, so no crank trigger input. The car was running when I had my old MS2PnP in it, but switching to the MS3PnP brought cranking but no-start. I have tested all 4 coils (GM D581s wired for wasted spark) with TS test modes as well as all 4 injectors and all is well there, so it must be an issue with the CAS Input.

I was expecting to simply use the default MS3X Cam Input, but I never got an RPM signal or sync with that so I switched to JS10 and managed to get an RPM signal while cranking. What is the difference between the two and why does using the default MS3X input on a PNP not work? Lastly I've attached a composite log which I admittedly don't fully understand how to read but captured with the settings shown above. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

The Basic MS3 does indeed use the JS10 cam input. Our first ECUs were built using the standard JS10 input on the V3.0 mainboards, so we carried over that design to retain the basemap compatibility.

That makes sense, I presume the Spark Hardware in Use should be JS10 as well then or is MS3X correct?

No, use MS3X there. The V3.0 outputs couldn't be used in this case as they are used for the knock sensing chip instead. TLDR; use the basemap settings, you don't have to figure these out yourself.

Thanks Rev! I actually bought it second hand and it appears that the “base map” loaded on it is not the original base map, so I’ve had to do some experimenting. Can I download the original base map anywhere, I thought I saw somewhere that they weren’t available to second-hand owners?

They are available as a stock basemap if you email me your serial number. Original owners that purchase directly from us are entitled to custom basemaps.
