MSPNP 90-93 wont start

hi
installed my MSPNP in my 93LE today.
but it wont start:mad:
just pops and backfires. sounds like the ignition setting is way off.
runs great with the original ecu.
tryed to manualy sett the ignition with the cas. bottomed it out both ways but its still the same backfiring.
the ignitor gets REALY hot to in just a couple of minutes.

have tryed both the with and wihtout afm software.
same problem.

what to do:confused:

Braineack 11-21-2007 03:18 PM

too much fuel. is it cold where you are? you may need to decrease the cranking PWs.

everything is stock?

Ben 11-21-2007 03:21 PM

Cold start enrichments. Try the swap on a warm car. Mine were waaayy lean.

And like fill out your profilez and junx.

1275GT 11-21-2007 04:06 PM

ok
the car is in my garage. it about 65 degres fahrenheit.
18 degres celsius. i live in sweden so it takes a lite converting:)

no the car is not stock.
its turbo converted, front mounted ic. no cat.
so far original injectors. thought i would start it with these and the new MS before i swap to my new 440s.

tryed with the no maf first but mounted it back when it not started just to se if that was the problem. but it wasnt.

i swaped back to the original ecu and it started imediatly so i dont think its somthing wrong with the car.

but why does the ignitor get so damn hot so fast

The timing is set pretty far backed off by default - have you checked it with a timing light?

Also, have you changed any of the MegaTune settings or reloaded the firmware for any reason?

1275GT 11-21-2007 05:11 PM

i have tryed to set the timing meckanikly with the cas. not with a strobe light yet. trying that tomorow.
fiddled a little in megatune with the ignition timing as described in the manual.
whitch parameter should i change if the timing is off when i check with the lamp tomorow?

reloaded it to try with or whitout the afm.
(whit the ignitor contact of)

but why do the ignitor get so hot when im only cranking?

What are the numbers off your old ECU do you have a picture of it?

Check your 'Spark Settings' page, what's the 'Spark Output Inverted' setting set to?

1275GT 11-22-2007 01:50 PM

hi
spark output inverted. says yes.

Attachment 215231

and my original ecu has these numbers.

Attachment 215232

cjernigan 11-22-2007 02:29 PM

Pretty sure you want it set for inverted "no", using yes fried my coils. If the ignitors are getting hot then the setting is incorrect and needs to be set to no.

1275GT 11-22-2007 02:32 PM

ok
butt i havent changed anything in the settings
i thougt it was gonna be pnp?
or have i done anything wrong during instalation?

but yes my ignitor and coils get dangerously hot imediatly.

cjernigan 11-22-2007 02:36 PM

Change the setting to non-inverted.
Just because it's PNP doesn't mean you shouldn't read the manual and do your own research about certain settings.

Edit:
I just downloaded the 90-93 MSPNP msq file and it is setup correctly with inverted set to "NO".

Ben 11-22-2007 03:05 PM

I glanced quickly at your spark settings, and I saw 2 settings that are not correct. You need to load the base map.

FoundSoul 11-22-2007 03:20 PM

You did say you flashed the unit with the 'without AFM' firmware, you must then reload the base map as the firmware doesn't have the proper base settings. This is what caused these settings to be wrong, and what has pretty much definitely burned out your ignitor now. Thankfully you can find used ignitors pretty cheap from Rspeed or Mazmart usually.

Read the manual closely as mentioned, when you flash the firmware you were right to unplug the ignitor when flashing, but you also must leave it unplugged until you reload the base map. Do that and you'll be fine (once you have a good ignitor).

1275GT 11-23-2007 11:53 AM

yes my mistake. missed that in the manual:(
do you have it in swedish? ;)

i thougt the without afm fuel thing was the map. so i didnt load the map afterwards.

but thanks to this forum and you guys:bigtu:
my car is nu upp and running:)

i mannaged to not burn my ignitor so the car fired upp nicely:)

so thanks again guys.

i will surely come back later with more problems ;)

cjernigan 11-23-2007 01:21 PM

If you car ceases to run you could have shortened the life of the ignitor, they don't like heating up like that. So if all of a sudden your car runs bad, doesn't run at all, or won't start, suspect the ignitor.
