Default Mspnp 99-00??

Now that the MSPNP 96-97 is out, I haven't heard anything about the 99-00.

Is this still happening?

Last time I checked, DIY was working on a couple of other cars to do PNP's on before coming back to miatas.

If you want help doing your own I'll help you. If not I'll be building some more this summer. How soon do you want it?

EDIT: Just read your sig, whats the deal you apparently already have MS? Is this for a different car?

Mostly just like the idea of a fully plug and play install. Once one is available, I'll upgrade and sell mine. Don't expect to gain much but simplicity and reduced failure points.

Still true. We fully intend to build a '99 and later MSPNP, but there's a couple other models ahead of it in line.

Hmm. Not sure how strong the demand is for 66 Dart PNP ecus, but good luck with it none the less.

This is next on my list to tackle as I'm sure most of you know.

Hey DIY we should have a 99-00 development race. Hehe
It could be fun, whoever wins corners the MS market for 99-00 miatas.

Just kidding, you guys make great stuff.

Actually, we're building them for the cars out in back - we'll have a model for the Mitsubishi Mighty Max / Dodge D50 and for '80s Subaru RXs. We decided our next MSPNPs would be for cars that the aftermarket's ignored for way too long.

Just kidding, although that white Subaru sort of has a plug and play system in it. And there were a few hints dropped at the MegaMeet about what one of the next models would be.

Yeah, I was assuming it would be for that car next to your Dart in the shop.

Good guess. However, we're juggling quite a few projects and right now nobody, not even Jerry, knows which one will be finished first.

If you build one for the 99-00, it might just tempt me to go NB

Doesn't really matter to me. The piggy is great for maintaining OBDII. But, I'd like to get to the point where I don't have to worry about my poor soldering skills.

What's interesting to me is why the 99-00's are "johnny come lately's" to the aftermarket party so often? It seems to make more sense to ignore the 96-97 rather than 99-00 (if you're going to choose to ignore model years).

Production numbers suggest there's more money in the latter years. There were more NB's produced in 99 than in 96-97 combined!
96 18,607
97 17,910
Total 36,517

99 38,593
00 19,502
Total 58,095

I guess the thought is that they are newer and less likely to be modified. But, seems to be an argument that is increasingly out of touch with reality. The sheer numbers should've pushed the balance over by now.

Or maybe, it's because the NB's are viewed as substantially more complex? Who knows.

Anyway, I'm going outside now to see if I can track down where my MS wiring has gone wrong. Ack!

If I had to guess, I'd say that the reason for the order in which the units came out is as follows:

The 1.6 was first, because it's what they had lying around and was a hugely undeserved market. The '94-'95 was next because it's completely identical except for a few wiring changes. The '96-'97 was next because it's very similar to the others. The NB however is a different animal. New development work is required for things like alternator control, and I suspect they'll have to go with the MS-II in order to support the factory crank and cam triggers.

To me, it makes sense for DIY to release all the NA units first, as they're all pretty similar, rather than postponing them while they do the NB development.

Joe nailed it: All the NA cars are very similar, so we were able to use a lot of the development work from the first one to launch the other two. The NB is going to require more development work and is likely to be running MS2/Extra because the different sensors require it.

Joe forgot to mention that the NA is King, and that is the 1st and formost reason for all the NA models years to be done.
