MSPNP runs

So I threw in the MSPNP at Ben's urging (thanks, I need a kick now and then to get moving) with the stock injectors, and the wastegate disconnected from the flapper door on my newly installed system. It's loud as crap in my one-car garage with 3 solid walls and open downpipe (echo echo echo), but running pretty well for being a plug-in and pray type of attempt. AFM removed.

Aside from the battery being pretty drained (hasn't been started in almost a month), a couple little coolant leaks (fixed), and a rattling downpipe, it would seem that I'm almost there!

sweet

cjernigan 06-12-2007 10:32 PM

Exciting stuff, ET on completion?

Ben 06-12-2007 10:36 PM

I let him slide tonight because it was storming out. miata + tornado = :td:
TOMORROW one more black and red is going to the dark side. No excuses.

Hopefully we'll have enough injector to safely get WG boost levels. If not, we'll throw an FMU on there with his fully programmable ecu. Until he gets his 460s cleaned.

Yeah, it just now started clearing up.

I'm going to give Midas a call as soon as they open to see if they can squeeze me in during the early morning to quickly attach my DP to the rest of the exhaust. It sure would be nicer to tweak the car when you don't have to wear earplugs.

Ben 06-12-2007 10:58 PM

cool, would make it easier to hear knock.

Maybe you can do some "favors" for Jerry and he'll let us borrow his LM1.

This is a temporary holdover until Ben builds you a custom three-incher? ;)
Congrats! :bigtu:

Ben 06-13-2007 01:23 PM

would have to get the wire jam removed from the MIG gun first.

I did stitch up my exhaust myself though. :bigtu:
It's a Tony pipe, bolted to a test pipe, bolted an enthuza pipe that I cut then welded to my catback with a transition piece between. I also added a wb bung to the tony pipe and also I added a AIT bung in my throttle side pipe.

Now that I have a JIG saw, I could probably do an exhaust now. Maybe. When the wire jam is cleared out. With really big, ugly welds.

m2cupcar 06-13-2007 02:57 PM

even ugly welds make friends :ughug:

Alright, well, I have a new reason why I didn't make it up to Ben's today to get boost going.

I rushed home from work early today and buttoned up my undertray, triple-checked for leaks, and wired/setup the wideband. On the positive side, the wideband seems to be working quite well for $50 (thanks SoFlaRick). On the downside, open downpipes are loud. Loud enough to get a stern scolding from the local police officer directing traffic. I drive 5 ft. outside the apartment complex, and I get whistled to pull over, and told to turn around and go home, cause I was too loud.

Stupid "custom guy" wasn't at the exhaust shop today, so they're expecting me first thing in the morning to attach my downpipe to the rest of the exhaust.

I swear to you, I will get this boosted and tuned soon! This upcoming weekend is my last free weekend as a single man!

Ben 06-13-2007 08:04 PM

fuzz ftl. :td:

We should do a cooling fan mod tomorrow too, if you haven't done it yet. We can pick up a DPST relay from the O'Reily's that's 3 miles from my house.

Atlanta93LE 06-13-2007 10:10 PM

Good call. Shouldn't be hard at all...I already have a heavy gage, fused power supply going to the nose for the air horns that can be tapped into.

Atlanta93LE 06-15-2007 08:33 AM

Much thanks to Ben for helping me get boosted last night (or more appropriately, early this morning)! Let me borrow some NB 1.8 injectors that had enough juice for wastegate pressure (~7-8psi) and get it roughly street-tuned on the MS. Lots more tuning to do, and I'll get up to bigger injectors soon, but it's badass. More to come later, but thought I'd share that after 8 months of tinkering with the idea of boost, my DIY setup works.

m2cupcar 06-15-2007 09:33 AM

congrats :bigtu: - let us know when if feels slow again. ;)

Ben 06-15-2007 12:15 PM

You really need to do something about that noisy intake. Sounds like a demonic hoover.
Otherwise, Ben's car is nice and quiet. Like damn near silent. It pulls pretty good, and AIT is in check for this level of boost.

I think we got most of the cruising cells tweaked out well. And the boost cells are "good enough" for now.

I think once we get your 440s and EBC in, your car is going to be a lot of fun.

magnamx-5 06-15-2007 12:17 PM

Awsome another 16g way to go brother :D

GTS Miata 06-15-2007 12:50 PM

Congrats!

another turbo'd (and MS'd) atlanta area car. I'm getting inspired... I need to work harder on getting mine put together.

Ben 06-15-2007 01:03 PM

Oh BTW
Wire Jam removed from MIG gun. I've always wanted some duals similar to enthuza's new 3" set up. Maybe we'll build us some exhausts in the next few months. You know, after your wife gives you some "shore leave."

Atlanta93LE 06-15-2007 02:05 PM

Haha, sounds like a plan. The drive back last night was pleasantly uneventful. Although I wish I could say the same about the drive to work this morning...got in my first car wreck (not the Miata). This'll be fun with me going out of town Monday...

Ben 06-15-2007 03:54 PM

Not good. Is everyone OK? What about your truck?

Atlanta93LE 06-15-2007 04:03 PM

It was one of those "pick the lesser of two evils" things. I was waiting to turn left somewhere (so was stopped. Get plastered head-on by the drunken fool and have the car totaled, or get the hell out of the way and get hit on the rear/side and risk spinning. I took the lesser blow, and thankfully stopped a spin. Unfortunately, because I didn't sit like a man and take it, I got cited for failure to yield on a left turn :vash: Nobody hurt though...and no airbags deployed or anything like that. Course the other guy got to drive away from the scene. Doesn't that figure?

Car has some rear suspension damage (passenger rear wheel is all out of whack...had to be towed to the body shop), as well as quarterpanel and rear bumper, along with other, more minor pieces. I'm praying no frame damage. I'm still waiting to hear from the insurance adjuster, who might be out of town until Tuesday (wtf?) so work won't begin on my car 'till Wed. Means driving up to STL for the wedding is probably out of the question right now. Still working out tweaked logistics.

emerilnut 06-15-2007 07:09 PM

Aw dude... bad break man.

I was going to say Way To Go Bens before I read about the wreck.

I'm TRYING and TRYING to get started on my MS project... but I have to go to work on Saturday at 7 am!!! Talk about putting a damper on the weekend. SHEESH

magnamx-5 06-15-2007 09:01 PM

damn dude that sucks i hope you don't get to reemed by the situation. :(

cjernigan 06-16-2007 12:15 AM

So much for defensive driving skills being supported by the police, fuckers.
Hope they can get you back up and going soon, insurance work sucks when they take forever with the insurance.

Yeah...lose lose situation. I don't think I have a prayer of having it done by next Friday, which is when I'm supposed to drive up to St. Louis to get married. We'll see what happens.

magnamx-5 06-16-2007 08:59 AM

Drive the miata to STL problem solved. Or Borrow/rent a car.

Ben 06-16-2007 09:43 AM

Insurance should cover a rental for you. One of em, Enterprise I think, doesn't care about miles. Rent a Corolla or something, and get 45 mpg.

I wish. Apparently, I never clicked the box for rental reimbursement coverage. :vash:
