Default MSLabs MS3 Basic - NB into NA, and add second VSS

Hi

A friend of mine has a used MSLabs MS3 Basic that he got used, for the early NB (VICS not VVT). He bought it used by mistake for his NBB (VVT) car, but decided not to fit it when he realised the ECU plugs were different and it wasn't totally plug and play.

He's offered it to me at about half new price - I've got an NA but I'm happy to chop my wiring harness around to get it to work... It looks like it would just be a case of getting a scrap set of matching plugs and swapping the wiring over, or are there any other gotchas I've missed?

The other thing I'm not sure of is that the MS3 Basic only has one VSS input - on the thread Reverent says that it's possible to add a second speed input but it has to be spec'd at ECU build time as additional circuitry needs to be added - is this additional circuitry for a switched saw tooth input like the standard miata VSS input, or is it for picking up speed from an ABS sensor?

I've got adaptronic at the moment, with an additional circuit that picks up the front / rear ABS sensor pulses and converts them into a sawtooth pulse that the adaptronic can read for traction / launch control - if I can't do this on the MS3 Basic then it's pretty much a waste of time and I should save up for a better specced ECU...

Some models include a second VSS input, however this is a hall-type input, not a VR (aka ABS) input. If you need an ABS input, then you need the Enhanced MS3, not the Basic MS3.

Hi Reverant,

I'll try and get the serial number off him and PM with it. I have a circuit in between the ABS/VR sensors that converts the weak signal into a 5v (I think, may be 12v) switched square wave signal the same as you'd get from an NA speedo pulse from the back of the cluster..

Thanks

Jon

What year is your car and what year MS3 do you have? I have a 96-97 MS3 and looking for a 99-00 MS3

It's a 99-00 ECU I think. My car is a 94 JDM import...

Dimitris, is it possible to reprogram 96-97 ECU to work with OBD 1 cars or is wiring different?

Looks like the wiring is different - yours has physically different plugs so it's not gonna be plug and play for me either...

All Miata ECUs have different pinouts, some even have different connectors, so no.
