Default Buying MSPNP

Going to buy a 90-93 MSPNP now and I wanted to make sure I get everything I need. DIYAutotune says you get a MAP sensor with it, but that you need a GM IAT sensor to remove the AFM - I thought the MAP sensor was the solution to removing the AFM?
Anyways, I want to use the MSPNP to remove my MAF, and tune A/Fs (I have an AEM UEGO).
I don't plan to get knocksense.

So do I need the IAT and are there any other add-ons that I need? I have a laptop to do the tuning with. USB is ok - no need for the serial adapter?

Am I missing anything?

The MSPNP has a built in map sensor just like every other MS out there. You need the GM IAT sensor because the stock IAT sensor in built into the AFM and when you remove the AFM you no longer have an IAT sensor. The GM IAT is better anyway. You shouldn't need anything else unless you want EBC, then you should buy the solenoid and connector.

I've never seen an MSPNP so I don't really know the interface for the DB9 but I'm pretty sure its a s-video style cable that converts to DB9. You will need a DB9 to USB adapter if your laptop only has USB. Buy the adapter they sell, it is known to work well compared to many of the adapters you can usually buy locally.

GM IAT and EBC if you want to control boost through the MS.
Also need the tuning cable (not sure if MSPNP comes with it) and the USB adapter (it converts the serial from the MS to USB for your laptop, unless your laptop has a serial port).

CJ's pretty much got it. You want to get the open-element type GM IAT sensor, with pigtail. This is going to have a 3/8" NPT thread on it- you can either drill and tap a hole somewhere in your intake (post-IC if applicable) and screw it directly in, or you can buy one of the three weld-in bungs they sell (stainless, regular steel or aluminum) and have it MIG-welded to your intake pipe.

As to tuning cables, I'm pretty sure the MSPNP includes a cable to go from the 4 pin connector to a DB-9. The protocol is RS-232, so if your laptop has an RS-232 port, you're set. If not, you'll want to buy the USB to Serial adapter that DIY sells.

I'm running mspnp and it comes with the serial cable. You will need the USB to serial adapter if you want to use USB port on laptop. I have a serial port so it connects directly. I have the IAT sensor which I will install later with the turbo. I currently have it tuned using AEM Uego and factory AFM. Just ordered the boost solonoid and pigtail connectors today. Car going to the shop tomorrow for turbo install.

Last night I put the order through - 90-93 MSPNP + GM IAT + Serial/USB adapter
I'm very very excited!
I decided to hold off on getting the EBC harness and solenoid as I have a MBC right now and want to keep the variables that I change at one time minimized. I'll be up to my ears learning to use this thing as it is.

So now I have a question:
Currently I'm running Vortech w/ 12:1 + 1.6 injectors. My plan is to ditch the Vortech and use 400ish injectors. However, finding them for a decent price is a waiting game and I've not yet gotten a good line on any.
So, can I run the MSPNP with the Vortech operating? Or should I get my life together and find the bigger injectors I need asap?

I'd get the right injectors first. Replacing them later will totally throw off your tune since there is an AFPR involved.

Yeah you can run the MSPNP with the vortech you tune the MSPNP for the rising fuel pressure. It's all based on AFR, the MSPNP doesn't care about your fuel pressure. You'll have to retune later on but that's not a big deal. MLV can get your AFR's about spot on with 2-3 datalogs at the most.

It can run with a RRFPR, just makes the tuning a bit different.

You could keep the Vortech, but frankly it seems to me that tuning with it would be a pain in the ***, and then you'd have to completely re-tune when you step up. I would definitely, 100% advise getting the proper injectors first.

A couple suggestions-

1: Hang around RX7club.com and see what they've got. Probably a lot of folks upgrading their stock '89-'92 non turbo RX7s with injectors to spare.

2:Check out http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/Injector_MILLED.asp This is where I got my injectors- they're the Bosch green-top 465s. Call the guy up and talk to him- really helpful fellow. I initially wanted RX7 injectors, but couldn't find any, so I described my dilemna and he came up with that solution. In fact, he hadn't yet started doing the re-milling of them at the time I bought mine, so he described what he had in mind and I milled them myself. The connectors are different, but he includes pigtails for you to splice into your harness. It's pretty easy.

I'll keep on the look out for some injectors. If the MS gets here and I haven't found anything, I'l likely go ahead and get that installed right away.
What/who is MLV?
I'm planning to do all my tuning on my own, just getting the target A/F's spot on for now and playing with boost and then once I get my downpipe and the right injectors installed, I'll likely go to a dyno then as that is the full set up I want to run for a while. So, no dyno yet, just trying to get the fuel right.
What do I have to do differently with MS to tune it for the RRFPR?

MLV=Megalog Viewer. Killer datalog analysis (I hate that word) application.
Because the RRFPR will be constantly jacking around with your fuel pressure, you will have to tune to compensate for that. When you remove it, your VE (fuel) table will be completely and totally wrong.

MegaLogViewer is a third party application designed to not only view logs but also perform VE table analysis and make corrections to your VE table based on WBO2 feedback. It seems to be the only application in the whole MS suite for which anybody is asking money. You can download the software for free, and so far as I can tell it appears to be un-crippled, but the author requests that you register the software for $20. It's a bargain.
