Question Too many advices on tuning VE?

Hi guys,

So now am I finally on my way to start tuning my VE table. I've been reading lots of information about tuning the idle and tuning the VE table with MegaLogViewer. However I'm a little bit confused about the different instructions/tips I've found. What do you expert tuners have to say about this?

Tuning idle

Some say you shouldn't care about AFR and only focus the reach the lowest map possible. Here on the Mspnp Faq tuning for the lowest map is reccomended for those who not have a WB. If you have a WB you should go for 13.3:1 AFR. I tried to tune for the lowest possible AFR and its a bit leaner than 13.3. Should I be pleased with this or go a little bit richer?

Tuning VE
In the MS Extra Tuning Manual and others places the most common advice seems to be that you should turn AE and overrun settings off. On my first log rund I'd turn AE off but then I found other information on MSExtra forum. There Phil Tobins said that "I generally recommend against turning off things like Gego correction. That gives good input to VE Analyzer.
Your first round of AE tuning should probably come first. Even if that is just sitting still blipping the throttle at different rates and adjusting to get the best response. In the end, AE and VE tuning are going to impact each other. If you AE is lean or worse off, VE Analyze will do what it can to richen it on what ever cells you were passing through, even though records are filtered with the AE flag set. There is residual effect.
So in the end you have to do a couple iterations.

I do recommend not bothering to fine tune your warmup enrichment until you have the rest pretty well down."

How do you guys do?

After a couple of runs using the Megaviewer analyzer I think I'm on the right track but its for sure a long way to go. But I'm on it!

If anyone would like to take a look and give me some more advices or insight in how to read the log please do My latest log fil is attached below ;-)

I idle both my 94's at 15-15.5 afr. Before I was running the HiRes code I had to idle at 13.5 to get it smooth.

i turn off EGO correction but leave on AE when I log for tuning. Obviously the car should be warmed up past the 160 F warmup enrichment value

Thanks for the info Paul! I leave my idle a little bit leaner and turn on my AE when my VE table is getting close to good.

Thanks!

Im having the same issue. anything leaner than 13-13.5 the car idles pretty rough. Could you explain more what you did to be able to idle 15-15.5?

What kind of injectors? With my RX7 460's I have to idle rich (13ish) or it has little misses and a almost unperceptible amount of hunting. I've seen people running the same ECU (Link MK2) using rc440/550 and their idle is rock solid at around 14.7-15AFR.

I assume this has to do with the injectors them self, what about the MS overcomes this? When I get my RC550's installed I'll see if I have the same issue with them as well.

in hi-res i can idle my 620cc injectors 15:1 or so without a problem, then later that night or the next day it will idle at 13.2:1, i can't figure out what's causing the change
