99 miata first ms
I'm wanting to ms my na 99 miata and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I need. So far I'm thinking a ms2 complete, 24" pigtail, db9 cord, USB adaptor and use a 94 altornator. I know I need to figure out the ac but am I on the right path? Also what can I do for Vic's, will the factory trigger wheel work, and do I need a NA cas? I'm sure this has been answered before I just can't seem to find it and I want to make sure I get the right things before I order. Any help is appreciated

How comfortable are you with a soldering iron? What's the future plans for the car?
Whichever MS2 or MS3 based setup you decide on;
1. GMAIT sensor
2. Wideband setup
3. Serial to USB adapter
4. Your '99 alternator is fine and controlled by the ECU
Really... take the time to read through the stickies in the ECU section.

I don't trust myself with building a board. If I can't work this out I'll go with the mspnp I'm just trying to save some money. I also read through the stickys but I'm just confusing myself at this point. And from what I understand unless I want to build a circuit I have to use the 94 alt. I don't think the ms2 controls it without modification.

Sorry for the double post. Forgot to add car will stay na with 11.1 c/r Also any links to threads where an ms2 standalone was installed on a 99 would be a big help. Thanks

Both plug in place of the stock ECU and will come with a 'base map' which is essentially a basic starting tune that YOU, or someone you know or PAY will need to improve upon.
You will also need the GM AIT sensor I mentioned and figure out a place to mount it. This replaces the stock MAF sensor. I gutted a housing and epoxied mine in place of it in my original installation.
You will need a serial cable 9 pin to USB cable which can be bought from a vendor or locally (pay attention to the chipset).
You should have a full version of Tunerstudio + laptop for use in tuning.
About 6-8' of vacuum line
Mentioned Wideband + sensor which replaces the front O2 sensor.
About 2 hours of your time to do the swap + many hours after to "tune"...

I'd go with either; MsPNP2 from DIYAUTOTUNE or the MS2E from REVERANT both are vendors here. IMHO the MS3 is overkill for what you want/need. Especially as you're trying "to save money" (wrong hobby for that my friend).

Well, you said you weren't confident with a soldering iron so those are really the best options.
I have an MS2E from Reverant and am happy with it.
His latest is even better. The last page of that thread has a list of features.
