Need some help with AFRs
2 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
I have a 97 miata, just installed a ms2pnp, MAF delete with GM IAT. I tried to start the car with the included base map and had a heck of a time getting it to start and idle, I then tried a base map from DIY, still couldnt really get it to run or idle . I ended up flashing the MS to msextra 3.4.2 firmware, the only base map I could find for my year was from DIY and was for 3.3.1a, I ended up loading that base map, and was able to get it to start and run. I set the fixed timing to 10, and verified it was timed right, it looked good. My idle was really bad so i ended up adjusting the idle speed by using the idle speed adjuster on the intake. So finally was able to get it to idle decently, but my AFR is all over the place. I finally got it to a point that I felt brave enough to take it for a little drive, but my AFRs are so bad. I have tried running the VE analyzer on some data logs, but it doesn't seem like it actually saves to the tune when I click save tune, so I have been "saving tune as" then going back in TS and loading the new tune. I think my VE table is way off, im not sure about my AFR or my ignition. I feel way in over my head right now, so just looking for any help to get my car to a drivable state again. Attached is the short drive i did, and my tune profile Thanks! |
Are you using a WB O2 sensor?
Your log doesn't seem to show AFRs, so we really can't see what's going wrong.... |
Yes I'm using a wideband, I'm using an aem uego 30-4110. I can see AFRs when I look at the logs. Do I need to do something different when I save the logs so that AFRS show up?
Thanks for the help! |
If he has one available, I would suggest a base map from Trubokitty.com to start with.

Thanks for the help! How are you logging? From Tunerstudio, or are you converting from SD-card logs? The log you posted "fitfth.msl" contains no field named "AFR". It has "AFRtarget" and "AFRload" both of which are related, but not what we need. |
Yes I'm logging with tunerstudio. If you go to the top of megalog viewer and click "configure, then configure afr" or something, then click aem new or something. I'm not home right now, but when I get home, I'll post what I'm doing.
EDIT: So in Megalog viewer I had to go to "Calculated Fields -> Wideband O2-AFR -> AEM Linear (Most Current)" https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...027c5f1112.png |
Did you run the WBO2 before installing the Megasquirt, and did it appear to be working properly? Are you certain you have it grounded and wired properly?
|
I ran the wbo2 when I installed the MS. I believe that it's wired right l. The power, ground, and signal are all wired into the MS. The readings on the gauge match the readings in TS. I guess I could plug the stock ecu in and emulate narrowband and see what readings I get off the gauge.

The o2 readings are in voltage

Yours is not the first time I see it that way.It might be a firmware thing maybe? What ecu and what firmware?

In Megalog viewer I see the AFR reading, not the voltage. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...83fdb56aac.png |
Hmm, that's odd. Maybe its my ML viewer? Although I have the latest registered version.
Anyhow, I don't know how much it could be affecting things but change your dead time to 1ms or less and not the 1.3ms in the tune. I don't know how much it will help but it certainly can't be worse having the number be more realistic. |

Thanks, that is pretty much what I have done.
I ended up buying the full version of TS. I have gone on a couple drives with VEAL, but I don't really know where I should be with my AFRs I guess. Another problem I'm having is cold start, when I crank, it wont start on it's own like with the stock ECU, I have to give it gas to start up. I think my idle is somewhat ok, but it just doesnt seem "right". The other problem I'm having is after I've been driving, it will idle fine BUT if I turn it on, then try and hot start, I have to give it lots of throttle, and then it will die out in the lower RPM, it wont idle. So I'm getting somewhere, but still not all the way there yet. If anyone wants to look at my data log and tune, and tell me where I should look, that would be great! drive.zip is a drive log, 3 hot start logs, and my tune. |
