negative trigger angle?
 

ok a few months back around thankgiving i blew up my motor (car specs and FW in sig).... oh yay... well prior to that on ms2 i was using a normal postive number for a trigger angle, now since we changed the motor over its been needing a negative trigger angle, and i notice it seems to almost stop when cranking sometimes. this never occured before on ms2 or earlier when i was on ms1. is there something i should change? i cant get to the diagnostic box for some reason, i just posted on msextra about that, or id take a trigger log. i know my cranking advance was always 10 or more, ive tried lowering it to no avail. it doesnt help really. we tried to move the dizzy to see if the trigger angle could be manipulated to move the other way, but that doesnt do anything either. ill include my msq , illl have to get another log, ive got so many im not sure which one has what anymore. but if i could get help to know what direction i need to go to make this better itld be great.

someone did tell me about a thread about this on either here or msextra, he forgot, and i couldnt find it in the search at all . this is the 4/1 stock mazda bp dizzy, with the hall effect i think? its the fingers not the disc style

i didnt try a different dizzy yet, im using the one from my old motor. but i do have another to try, i just feel this is a setting or something im overlooking, i hope. car is a 95 egt with the bp and turboed, has been on ms1e for almost 3 years, and has been running ms2e since mid summer. stock dizzy and module, nothing special really for now, till i cough up money and just go to ms3x...lol... but id like to make this better first..lol...

all i know is if i put my settings where everyone else with my set up has, i cant get the marks to line up.

You can't have a negative trigger angle. Rotate your CAS until it is positive.

What wheel decoder mode are you using?

4g63 rotating the cas was how i got it this low , if i remember right i was at +12 before the motor popped

My trigger angle has been -1 for as long as I'm running MS2e. Will it blow up?

stupid stuff like this makes me wonder, and is why i posted to make sure i can be ok with it..lol... it does run great, it just now with the negative angle has began making my starter kick once in a while if it cranks too long. everything else seems fine, and the motor seems faster than the old one even with out the cams i had... i had found something similar in a post in the ms3 forums, but from what im told the way those are set up are different as far as rising or falling edge goes now

Old version of firmware? It should pop a config error.

Running MS2e 2.1.0 q ever since brain fixed and upgraded it to MS2. No config errors or weirdness.

originally my buddy tried to set it up to run cas 4/1 but for what ever reason it wouldnt rev over 5500 rpms. maybe ill try to get into my buddys garage and pop the timing light on and see what we get this time out of it.

Later firmware will config error.

Why not run basic trigger?

The error aside, will this hurt anything/leave power on the table?

i have both cam and crank signals ran in ms2 now i wasnt using them in ms1 so we went to a different setting. but i can try that too, do i get the same trigger wizard or is that left to the dizzy?

in general , what would so drastically change that number on my set up? all my timing marks are lined up, the belts as tight as it was before, its even the same cas, unless something happened somehow when cylinder 1 blew to bits...lol... all i did was swap a junkyard motor in, threw my cas on and went to retime it and found this a while back. i did have web cams before, and those got sold, but i put cam gears on, i did switch back the gears once to see if they didnt line up right. but its just been one of those things thats made me wonder since it went in ya know...lol...

MS2 and MS3 can run negative trigger angle. it's not the same as MSI.

depends on the firmware.
