New to Megasquirt and interested in learning

Hello all. My name is Jay and I just purchased a 91 Miata with Turbo and Megasquirt. The car was being tuned by the original owner but he’s not that great at it either. Car will drive fairly descent but has a hard time with cold starts. I’m set to go to my tuner on Tuesday but would like to lear a little about browsing the software before I go. He’s going to show me some things as well. Any recommendations?

Read the manual, maybe find some youtube videos. Post specific questions that you don't understand.

i don’t have a manual, and I have been searching around the internet. Some of those programs I see look totally different from mine. I guess it’s the different versions of MSQ

Yeah you'll get lots of replies like that.

Man it is not straight forward at all. The manual is very basic. It is like trying to learn how to design your own camera by readying a manual on how to use one. Only helps a little.

So you do have to start by reading everything on the megasquirt website. Just read everything. But you'll not really know why or what the system are for in the first place. But then as you start trying to figure out how to get certain portions of your car to function well, you'll have to go back the basics. Read the manual again, read the questions posted on forums, watch some youtube videos. You can and will piece it all together. Just keep going.

And if you aren't familiar with how the various systems work. Get the book.

What kind of ECU are you running? Post your tune.
There is a TON of resources online for you to read, starting from this very forum.

Google: "MS2 manual" "MS3 manual" (depending on which ECU you have, knowing that would help us help you). This will lead you to a quick start guide, hardware manual, and software manual.

I found this blog (recommended by someone else here) to be an excellent resource:

Mega Miata: Base timing

Start with the post I linked and keep reading them in order.
