New Rev Basic MS3 in a stock '99 - won't start

Hey guys. This is my first experience with MegaSquirt, so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. I got my Basic MS3 from Reverant, and just finished installing it in my completely stock '99. I've got an AEM wideband and Rev's serial wideband CAN bus box.

I followed his instructions for setup, but the car won't start. It cranks, and sputters, and one time it actually ran for a few seconds but died, and after that I can't get it to catch again.

Sadly, I wasn't logging that time, but I'm attaching my tune and a log from a later cranking attempt. It seems like it's getting all the sensor inputs it needs -- I see reasonable values for RPM and MAP and CLT (it was mid 50's outside) and AFM (matched up with what was displayed on the gauge).

Any ideas what I'm missing? Thanks guys.

Fuel pump priming/running?

TheCowGod 10-05-2014 08:16 AM

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is -- I hear a whine when I turn on the key, and the car does sound like it's almost starting at times, and occasionally whole cranking I'll hear a pop that sounds like fuel burning in the exhaust. I'll post a video in a little bit. But it does sound like fuel is being injected.

I have a timing light but haven't been able to set timing yet, since I can't get it running.

I redid the REQ_FUEL calculation, but everything was already set to stock values for a 1.8, as expected, so nothing changed.

Anything else I should check? I haven't replaced the IAT, because my understanding is that's optional on the 99, correct? Thanks everyone.

Here's a video I just shot of a cranking attempt. The associated log is included. I guess you can't really hear the fuel pump in the video, but there's a definite high pitched whine when the key is turned on.

Does that give any additional insight? Thanks.

Go to Ignition Settings -> Ignition Options/Wheel Decoder and set the "Number of coils" to "Wasted Spark". I set it to "Coil On Plug" when I was testing all four ignition channels and I forgot to put it back to wasted spark.

Aha! That did it. It now starts and runs, now I can set the timing and get started with tuning. Woo! Thanks, Rev.
