newb diy mspnp question

Hi all,

I ordered up my DIY mspnp kit for my 1990 with the stock 1.6 motor.

Do i need a wideband to run just the basemap?

I'm trying to do the correct thing and only install the ECU on the stock motor first lol. Once i make sure it's running ok, i'll grab a wideband and injectors. Then go turbo.

On a separate note, i assume VEAL needs a wideband for sure right?

I'm not trying to skip anything or take any shortcuts, i'm just trying to figure out the order of my purchases and installs.

Thanks all!

You absolutely need a wideband to dial in the mspnp. No ifs ands or buts about it

If you don't have one, you're pretty much playing a guessing game with your motor, the only thing your narrowband will tell you is if you're at 14.7...

Technically, the narrowband will only tell you if you are richer than or leaner than stoich... But the answer to the question is that any fuel tuning should be done with the assistance of a wideband o2 system. The only folks who might get away without having one are those who do all tuning on a dyno, because the dyno has its own wideband sensor.
