OBDII, Emissions testing and Megasquirt

Noob here. I have been reading through this forum and others and have a question.

It has been suggested to me that, when upgrading to forced induction (turbo), that I upgrade the ECU with a Megasquirt on my '96 Miata. I will update the exhaust and injectors later.

Anyway, I live in central Texas and must pass the local OBDII hookup. Is it as simple as temporarily swapping in the stock ECU, tying the waste gate open and driving a bit until the original ECU reads/sets to the sensors and then she will magically pass? I don't mind doing this annually if the wrenching part is like less than two hours.

Most posts I can find are several years old and I am looking for more recent experience from Megasquirt users.

Thanks

You'll need to swap injectors, toss on the maf, swap the stock ecu back on, open the wastegate, unhook the bov, if running a high flow cat expect to have to mess around with the 2nd narrowband, whatever else you do that the stock ecu doesnt like.. at last drive 100-150miles so the ecu can test the cat for efficiency or you'll get error codes and fail.
