Ok, im gonna do it!
Tax money is on its way, i got the go-ahead from the wife, so its on. 500 bucks have been appropriated towards squirting my Miata.
Here is the shopping list i made from what i could gather looking at other peoples posts. ms I v3.0 184 stim 48 lc1 199 usb addapter 31.00 gm iat 16.5 gm clt 16.5 pullup resistor kit 1.60 I hope this about all i need because that comes right out to about 500 bucks. I plan on telling DIYautotune that im doing a miata when i order so they will give me the right parts. I hope to document the build and really document the install and setup, that seems to be a bit of a gap in the documenttation that is here... I also plan on building a plug and play setup like Kingof337 was going to supply. Any words of advice or obvious things i have missed? |
I bought the CLT sensor, but I'm going to stick with the Mazda one as it saves having to plumb the GM one in.

hardly a massive job though, and it more likely to be accurate than the easytherm fudge...
I never could get the Mazda CLT closer than 20° to my aftermarket temp gauge reading. |
i bought the stim fully assembled and it was about 70... if i'm using the stim to test my megasquirt and if i built both then i won't know if i built it wrong or if i soldered all goofy, therefore the stim is preassembled so i can test my megasquirt and not doubt the stim...

decided to build it yourself eh? hats off to you. have fun!
CLT isn't terribly important either way, IMO. |
ive built a few things before, like a DIY a/f ratio guage and a digital thermometer.. so im sure i can handle it..
the part that comes after the build is what im afraid of... it seems like there are a ton of settings that have to be set then adjusted just to get the damn thing to idle.... and then gettting it to cold start.... hopefully all of the people here that have been there and done that will be able to help me get it goin! |
just load in my msq and it should fire right up. and drive down the road... and boost to 12psi.... ;)

Yeah there are enough .msq's flying around that you should be able to snag something that is close to your setup to get you running. Then tune from there. That's how I did it. You are right, it is scary but this board will help you thru it. |
so the .msq is the main database that holds all the settings?
what are the main settings that i will have to adjust after i get it fired up? |
another question...
i plan on getting the MS in before i get my turbo kit in... is there a .msq floatin around for NA 1.6? |
.msq is the file that contains all the MS information.
PM me your email address and I'll send you a NA 1.6 .msq You can pull it up in MegaTune and look around. Since you are building the board, your process will go slowly. You will be amazed at what you learn as you build it. Thing will come together and you will understand alot of what is said/talked about. |

glad you asked this, i'm in the same situation here. MS should go in next week or two and turbo in about a month (or two)...

They can be useful as you can import the seperate fuel or spark files into your .msq without having to go to the trouble of re-writing the whole thing. |
im learning so much

I'd call this a fairly simple install. |
