Paranoid! ! Plus my MS is not working
 

Greetings All,
I finished my MS (with Abe's help) and it tested fine with the Stimulator.
We finished the wire harness.
When we installed it, it did not work correctly

We (ok me) need a 2nd, 3rd, 4th.. opinion pls!
I'm installing the MS on my 90 miata, so far it's all stock(ish)

Anyway, here my current pinouts

What exactly isn't working? Are you not getting RPM, getting RPM but running on two cylinders, or what?

I love these posts... "It isn't working! What's wrong?"

Newb: in addition to a good description of what it is or isn't doing, we need a log and an MSQ.

Here what I got so far.
D16 is on, it's not super bright but it is on.
The Throttle position is not reading correctly
The fuel pump does work, I can here it start up. yeah!

We stopped at that point because I did not want to mess is up anything.
My concern is:
The pins out from the MS to the miata harness.
Did we connect to the wrong pins on the harness?
Perhaps I got a ground crossed by going to the wrong pin???

Can anyone with a '90 post what MS pins went to what pins on their harness?
Please make it a pin-to-pin mapping not a pin to description mapping.

Oh by the way, I'm doing a stand-alone system with the MS.

good, but the 90-93 has no means to start the pump at the ECU. the AFM is simply being pulled open and creating a circuit, if it start, it will die.

Yeah - just had a little trouble going from the build thread to the "which pin goes to which pin" - without a lot of cross referencing to the manual, etc.

It's a stand alone 1990 with turbo.

One ignition light seems to be off, one one. Both of them seem to float at about 2.5 volts. Something is weird wrong. Isn't there a good pin out for the '90 somewhere, one that's RIGHT? A schematic? Also, when we had the TPS hooked up, the dead short in the TPS pulled down the +5v supplied by the MS, but it came back when we unhooked it, no harm done.

Since it works perfectly on the sim, I think the wiring is really suspect.

Really, a definative list, like the one Leo put in the first post, is what we need - but is it right? Things are open a bit to interpretation - "bumpy side" when both sides have bumps is hard to figure out.

I think things are easier when they aren't simplified. :-)

Anyway, it was about 2 am when we stopped and we were well past making mental leaps. I was thinking of going back up there to take another look, but I'd sure feel better if I knew what was supposed to go where.

Leo: Perhaps try pulling just that one Fuel Pump wire, see if that's messing things up.

Does any know where I can get a good schematic because the Chilton manual is no help??

Oh, by the way the board is clean, and it seems to work fine with the simulator as noted above.

As far as the fuel pump goes, I wired into the relay to give it power.(per someone that Abe call)

I verified the wiring and all the solder joints on the connector (either wrong or right) seems to be solid.
Tonight I'll try putting a better ground to the MS and see if that helps.

Let me explain... no no let me sum up

In retrospect I guess my question not originally clear?
I asked one, what I thought was a simple question -> Can someone double check my work. And let me know what I may have done wrong on the pin outs.

One gentleman answered nicely...what’s not work and wanting some details

Another response had the tone so sarcasm about new people to this site asking questions.
No big deal I’m a big fan of sarcasm

I answered back with my details that I currently had. Asked if anyone had a pin-to-pin mapping.
Even Abe stepped in with some details and also asked about getting a pin-2-pin mapping.

Waited a few days and nothing, waited a couple more days.. Nothing.
So I asked:
"How many people on this site and not person knows the pin-outs?? Or am I the only one that has put a MS on 1990 miata???"

This posting actually got a reply
But it came with and big WHINY YEAL.

I would like to say thank you very much of the info on the stock harness and the pin out to the MS.
I hope this will be the end of any and all ill feelings and we can move on.

Afer all the work With Joe Parez and Abe's help. The car took an evil turn :-(

The Crank-shaft Pulley is bad and wobbles
I removed it and will have the people that rebuild the motor look at it to see how they will fix it.

As it turns out, ndn-kewl is actually an OK dude. Didn't realize it at the time, but come to find that this is Leo who I know from the local club and was one of the first dudes I met when I first started autocrossing. Leo, sorry for jumping on you towards the beginnig of the thread.

Brainey, you called it dead-on with the "spot of flux between the transistor legs" earlier. There was a bit of spoo on the underside of the board around D16, which was pulling the base to ground, causing the transistor to be more or less off continuously. This caused SparkB to be on all the time. They say they didn't plug it into the car before I got there, so the igniter is hopefully OK. Apart from that, all the wiring seems OK, and we were gettting an RPM signal while cranking.

And yes, towards the end of the night, just as we were about to start it up, came the sucker punch to the gut. I pulled the fuel injector electrical connections and had Leo crank the engine while Abe observed the timing with the timing gun. Right as Leo started to turn the motor, Abe announced "This doesn't look right."

So yeah, pulley wobble. Leo removed the pulley and I yanked out the key. The damage isn't horrible, but it's going to require some new parts and the "Quick Metal" fix: http://www.miata.net/garage/hsue/LoctiteCrank1.html

Leo, be sure you get a new crank bolt as well as all the other parts.

On the bright side, we all got more steak than should be legal. :-) And somehow, the girlfriend isn't mad I 'spent all day working on cars again'.

sounds so wrong...while I understand the title...sounds so wrong.

Apparently I'm due for some competition in the "Excessively long and detailed video demonstration of a simple concept" arena. :D

But yeah, the food was killer, and the last of the Black Cat Stout was, in my opinion, the best. The carbonation level in that growler was just about perfect- apparently the extra headspace did the trick, despite fears of oxidation. Abe, I'm already planning my first batch of Tarheel Porter for when I get settled in at my new place, I'll have to figure out how to ship a bottle of beer from North Carlolina to California. Wonder how many different state federal laws that violates?
