Pins Stuck!

Building boomslang and figured I'd remove some wires to make it easier to solder up without as much tangle. Well...some came out nicely but I've now got 3 Pins stuck...the wire pulled strait out and left the pins in the connector. :crx:

i've tried pulling on em with a needle nose, but can't really grab on to enough of em to yank out. Is there some method i should be using?

There are two holes per pin slot in the female connectors. The small hole is where the male connector pin sticks into the housing and the other hole is to remove the pin.

Get a paper clip and a pair of wire cutters. Straighten the paperclip and cut the end of the clip off at an angle to make it sharp. Now stick it in the hole and lift the retaining clip that holds the pin in the connector while you pull the pin out with the needle nose.

If you were able to pull some of the pins/wires out of the connector without doing this then you're not inserting the pins/wires into the connector far enough. You shouldn't be able to pull them out without lifting the retainer no matter how hard you pull if you're doing it right.

Good to know, and thanks. I'll be checking the other pins with a small tug to see if they are properly seated.

If the wire pulled out of the crimp pins then you didn't crimp then good enough. If they come out of the pin like that then I would worry about them failing under vibration over long durations.

As would i generally...but I don't have a crimping tool other than a pair of needle nose pliers and with how hard I was pulling, well I'm ok with the wires coming out. If I was going to be really picky about it I could drop some solder in easily enough.

in one of the later pages in braineack's how to thread on MS, there's a diagram explaining how best you can take a stuck pin out.
