I'll be up there for Easter, maybe. I would be more than happy to lend a hand if you havent figured it out by then.

I am hoping to have it fixed by then but lets see if we can still do something. You might want to visit Lovefab and see the amazing 700whp nsx. Except you will want to buy one of their miata manifolds. I live near Kingsley.

Yes, I was very careful about static electricity. Everything looks fine in the stock ecu, the mods seem amazingly simple. Where should I be looking? Remember, stock ecu works fine but car doesn't run on MS and I can't connect with my serial port.

Oh, and there are two screws on the black connector from the ecu to the MS but I don't know how to unsnap it and I really don't want to break it. I am assuming there could be a bad connection in there.

get a picture of the board mods on the other side of your megasquirt please.

from what I can see right now, your board needs to be slightly tweaked, ill walk yo through what I see needs to be done and also give you the source of information:

1) You need to remove C12 and 30
2) You need to Jumper D1
http://www.diyautotune.com/faq/faq.h...aSquirt%20ECUs

Next, follow this link and read step #52 http://www.megasquirt.info/ms2/V3assemble.htm
From what I can see it appears that your jumpers are correct, but theres one I cannot see. There is also a map of the board on top to help you find the bits I am talking about.

ok i modified your picture for you to show you where stuff is, It still doesnt explain why you arent connecting to the megasquirt at all though.

Ok, now i read your thread one more time (and more carefully) and realized that you need to answer the questions which Aussie Driver asked. dunno if you know but he is one of the few people on our forum who really knows his stuff. If you answer the questions he asked you, then he will be able to help narrow down the issue for you.

As to your problem of not starting, have you looked at the .msq that was loaded onto the MegaSquirt? There can be about 20 different reasons why it won't start just because of slightly incorrect variables.

If your first instincts are to sell your MegaSquirt then I would strongly suggest that you run with those feelings. The MegaSquirt is a DIY ECU, not a cheap ECU. If you bought it because it is cheap and can't DIY to save yourself then cut your losses, sell it, and buy a 'customer' setup like a FM Link. Running with a DIY ECU that you don't understand is a recipe for failure/disaster.

Do you have MegaTune installed on your computer?

How do I check this if I can't connect to it? I'm sorry but I am confused.

I think I am going to hook it all up tonight and try and connect again, maybe it will magically connect now like my wideband did!? I am thinking that my XP laptop wasn't properly reading the usb/serial at first. I will also check to see if my old laptop will connect to either.

Thanks for all your help everyone, you guys are really impressive.

the MS is not going to just pop up on your screen when you connect the wire to your computer like a camera or flash drive does... you have to download and install the megatune software that is available at www.msextra.com once you have done this, then you should be able to access your megasquirt ecu via your computer.

Here is another idea. Do you have a stim? Test the MS on the stim first then pop it in the car.

Very funny. I'm not that out of it! But I guess you never know.

It must have been the port on the stupid new laptop, cause I connected but then I got a firmware message. It appears that the megasquirt's rom is empty. I shut it all down, so as not to screw anything up, and thats the end of it. Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I got an email from a buddy with an AEM offer that I absolutely cannot refuse. Plus, although limited, at least I will have a little knowledge and friends with lots. Thank you guys for all of your help and I hope this goes to a good home. Here are the pictures of the Megasquirt mods....

whats the price for the MS?

rotaryjunky 02-22-2007 04:44 PM

I posted it in the "for sale" section so I wouldn't get in trouble.
