Problem with MS PnP 90/93

Hi,

new here and for starting with the first question:

I own a special economic version of the 1996 NA. It´s a 1.6L with downsized 90bhp, Mazda made for unknown reasons. I already managed to install a 90-93 PnP in that car (different ECU harness) and got it up running n/a.

Due to the RX-7 AFM I had installed a while I drive 1.8L injectors and over the last winter I made a bit of headwork and added bigger valves (FM) to it. Plan is to go for ITBs the next few month (already ordered at Jimmy).

I had a problem with the timing belt for some time and now retuned the car to run (more bad than any good).
My first problem is, that the beauty runs EXTREMLY lean the first 3-5 minutes after starting up. AFR is around 20-25.

Second thing is, that I can´t really get her balanced at cruise (around 4000 / 70-80kpa) 120kph 6th Gear. The AFR is jumping between the fields and I cant get it running smootly....

I could add an actual msq I drove today as I think, I need some help with the ASE.

Would be glad, if anybody could help.

greetings fom Europe

Kristian

Post all the information about your setup. Like all the recent maintenance that's been done. (timing belt, plugs, wires, etc etc.) Also if you are running MSPNP you can remove your AFM as MS is map based. Also posting your MSQ would help.

New stuff: timing belt, spark plugs, COP System (Splitfire)
headwork (0,65mm off) and some work to the rest
1mm oversize intake and exhaust valves
1.8l injectors
AFM removed
MS PnP 90-93
LC-1
IAT
JR CAI

I don´t think that the rest is interesting.

msq is in the attachement

Thanks!

Just started the engine to move the car some meters and got an AFR jumping between 15 and 25. Idle is unsteady.

Hi,

I had the same problems, but i found some settings from joe, that get me very closed to a smooth running setup.

I will send you my msq later, i have to go to the garage and pick up my car notebook, puh i´m a lazy boy today. It´s to hot here.
Please look at my values in warmup enrichment, idle control, idle control closed loop settings and the cranking settings.
Dont use the msq for your setup, i think you are missing a turbo and 460cc injectors ;)
And, try the hires firmware.

edit>.msq attached

Dirk

Hi Dirk :)

I´ll try to set up the coolant temp for ASE first, before getting too nervous. I think, here lies the problem.

My dear friend and coppersticker ;)

CaptainChaos 08-31-2008 01:37 PM

Update: No change upon the coolant reaches 80°C.
Idling between 1200 and 750 with AFR around 18 - 28

I changed the coolant temp in ASE up to 75°C and nothing changed.

I think I really need help :sad2:

May it be the air valve in the intake, which is flooded with coolant??

ASE only covers the first couple seconds after start-up. You'll also want to adjust the warm up enrichment settings under Warmup Wizard.

CaptainChaos 09-06-2008 09:33 AM

Today I changed the idle control valve and the air valve in the intake manifold. Nothing changed.
As I forgot to put the MAP line back on the manifold, the car idled at 9 AFR stable.
I use a light modified 1.6 base map w/o AFM....

Is there something wrong with my MS???

CaptainChaos 09-07-2008 10:47 AM

I think I´ve got it. I played a bit with the Warmup Wizard and got an stable idle around 12 (I´ll get it better in future).
For some reason that worked...

Thanks everybody for taking notice.

Kristian,

I would love to have your help putting a MS PNP on a 90BHP.
i also have the same engine, a 96 car, but with a turbo.

but since the pinout is not the same, i cant get the wiring diagram.

is there a chance you can PM me a number so we can talk please?

thx

I´m not sure, but I think we mailed about that a time ago.

I can get you a german pinout, dunno, if that will help you.

Sorry for not answering the PN, but I am not allowed to under 15 postet (in the german forums I got about 33000 of that...) plz write me your mailadress, I´ll sent you ASAP (maybe on Sunday, I´m tomorrow of for a boat race over here)

It sounds like you found it. Sometimes the WB goes crazy if not grounded to the ecu ground on the motor. Might wanna double check that, if your not for sure.
Good Luck

The WB (LC-1) actually "says" E4 and E8 in the XD-16. I think the O2 has to be changed.
I think in a few months I´ll change it to something more reliable like the AEM.

My main problem was the Warmup Wizard. This wasn´t/isn´t correctly adjusted... It´s better now, but far from perfect, due to a not correct working O2 sensor (new one is on the way)
