Default alternative igniter and coil options

Going to get the MS installed in the next few weeks, will start with fuel and then move on to spark.

My cars a 04 with the coil on plug.

I heard the NB igniter’s are pretty frail, and probably very expensive.

Anyone know of a good (and cheap) coil igniter setup that I can use in place of the stock stuff.

Option so far seem to be

-NA 1.6 igniter and coils, is this one piece with the coils and igniter built in?
-Neon 420 coil, which igniter do I use with this?

I know I can use the MS as the igniter but would rather not.

Shouldn't I be able to use any wasted spark setup?

if you went with a neon coil, you could just install the vb39 option onto the board and drive the coilpack directly. It would not be that hard to do

Just use the stock coils with the integrated ignitors. They have lasted in my car which sees regular trackday use and everyday road abuse.

Reverant, do you have your spark setting posted on the board?

Would a turbo application be any harder on the stock parts?

I was just trying to avoid blowing up expensive parts, it seems the NA parts can handle more abuse.

The NA coils are more robust than the 1.8s and can hander a longer dwell time. That is remedied by just running a lower spark dwell of 2.4ms for example. The stock 1.8 internals are run at over 200hp daily on many cars on this board and a few see 300hp without problems. As long as your tune is good and you don't allow detonation, the stock internals are great.

You can use vb921 as igniter, or get mitsu igniter from 323, protegé to the junkyard. There reliable and cheap. But I would do the vb921 mod, they're 6$ each.

i think 4g63 ignitor/coils would be good for a turbo car. they're good for tons of power on dsms.
