Q: About MS1 fuel pump drivers

Q: Does the MS1 ( PnP ) drive the fuel pump the same way via the same relay as the stock 91-93 ECU ???

I lost my tach the other day while burning an MSQ to the Megasquirt with the lap top. The motor still runs fine with the megasquirt.

As part of the trouble shooting process I installed the stock ECU.

It would start and then die even with the F/P terminal diagnostic terminal jumpered to ground.

I have an igniter on order in case that is the cause that the tach went out.

Regardless, I would still be able to run with the stock ECU as a back up.

Yes, I did unplug the VTPS and installed the fuse normally removed for the MS.

Thanks

No, the MSPNP uses exclusively the part controlled by the start signal. The factory ECU does not control the fuel pump at all - the fuel pump is either driven by the starter signal while cranking, or through a second coil wired to the air flow meter when running.

If the tach output on the ignitor died, it's a sign the ignitor is on its way out as well.

For some reason the MS is still able to run on these semi-damaged ignitors while to stock ECU can't. Possibly due to a stronger output signal?

Thanks guys - The "2nd coil" would be the fuel pump relay that should be energized when I ground the F/P terminal in the diagnostics box ?

it should be. If the fuel pump is not turning on in this manner, you blew a fuse or killed the relay, or the pump itself.

So far, the car runs with the MS minus the tach and I have not found blown fuses but there is still checking to do...:hsugh:

no. the ignitor is damaged. nothing else will solve it.

this typically happens when you flash the firmware without unplugging it, but sounds like this burn you did happened to do the same damage.

I hope so for the sake of my back and my wallet...

No firmware, just a file or maybe even part of a file - just changing something.

The time before I burned two of my COPs.

I'm going to have to find a way not to do this no mo

The used Fleabay ignitor was in when I got home from work .... With trembling hands I opened the package installed it viola I have a tach again.

and it only took 15 different threads worth across multiple forums to achieve the same answer!

More like 21 :bowrofl:

Actually,I still have to figure out why my motor will not run with the stock ECU. That may or may not be related to the ignitor.

Aso why I fry stuff while just cause I make a change on an MSQ ... So many questions so little brain ;)

I do appreciate the help though.
