Question about alternative FANs mod

In the 2 ms1 units ive built, I used Brains guide for the fans mod, and built the whole thing in the proto area. Im doing some mods on a third unit at the moment and would like to do it the alternative way by:

Another easy method would be utilizing what you already get in the kit. Since we don't install Q4, we can use that transistor to drive the circuit.

Simply swap Q7 for Q4, and run JS0 into the top leg of R27. And jump the flat side of the middle LED to your harness. That's it

My question is do I move R27 into the proto area like on the pic or was that just done for clarity? And what pin of my harness do I need to jump to the flat side of the middle LED???

Thanks

I need to update that.

just do this:

Use the transistor for Q4 in place of Q7. Now run a wire from the negative side of the middle LED to one of the spare outputs, then run that to your harness for the fan.

Under 'codebase options and settings' change the middle LED from warmup to Output 4.

Under 'shift light / fan / outputs 3 & 4' change it from source to FAN, then enter the fan ON and OFF temps below.

Flat side of middle LED goes to eg. JSO? And then run a wire from JSO to pin 27 of my harness?

Sorry I just want to make sure its correct as the unit isnt mine

Thanks

nothing goes to JS0. You're using the circuit already available on the board, for the longest time we've only used it to light up and LED to say 'I'm in warm-up mode, you have yet to reach 160°F coolant temp'. The reason for replacing the transistor is because the desinated for that spot cannot handle the amount of amperage needed, so we swap it. so all you gotta do is send the wire out to the harness to ground the fan relay.

let me draw it for you.

This is how I've done the last 35 MSes I've built:

How you could you possibly ask for better service than that?

Thankyou very bloody much, thats excellent

Braineack: isn't the clutch switch 0-12v? Shouldn't you use a voltage divider or a protection diode to bring it down to 5v?

Ive only just gotten round to doing this, after having a million and one toher things to do. Just to clarify something, when you say

"Now run a wire from the negative side of the middle LED to one of the spare outputs, then run that to your harness for the fan."

The wire that I run from the spare output (in this case, following your diagram ^ its IAC1B) to the harness, do i literally solder a wire from IAC1 to pin 27 of the DB37?

Thanks

soldering the wire from the middle LED to the IAC1B spot brings it out to the db387 connector, you'll then need to go from the db37 connector the correct spot on the harness.

Searching for stuff on here is brilliant. Just when i'm ready to bang my head on something, up pop the answers. Next!:bowrofl:
