Default Car is idling, what's next?

OK, the Dimitris-built PNP MS2 is in my '2000 and the car starts and idles. I'm pretty excited. It will be taken for dyno tuning on Tuesday in hopes to get as much power as possible for autocross.

What are the steps between now and dyno tuning? Leave it alone? Drive around and try to autotune some parameters? What would you recommend?

Is this a turbocharged car?
Get some det cans. To benefit it for autocross I would suggest tuning it in 2nd gear on the dyno, esp if its a turbocharged car. If you only have it tuned in your 1:1 gear you will be losing out a lot of power you can have in the lower gears. Also if its legal for the class I recommend the free intake camshaft timing mod

Basically you want two tunes, one for daily driving and one for autocross.
or if you can, do a switched igintion map for autocross.

try to get your fuel dialed in by driving around a bit.

Post up your tune as well and whats your car setup?

Sorry, did not mention, this is Normally Aspirated autocross car.

Not sure about camshaft timing mode. Any info would be appreciated. This is a CSP car so intake is pretty much free. The car currently has RB intake and I will try to replace the MAF before Tuesday dyno session if I can find a suitable pice of pipe locally (no luck so far).

How, exactly, do I dial the fuel? Autotune on Tuner Studio? I'm not really familiar with it and that's where I need help.

How do I post my tune? By attaching .MSQ file? Setup - RB intake, RB header into OEM cat followed by Hushpower-2 muffler and turndown next to the diff. Light flywheel. No engine mods. The rest is all suspension. I have a flat top European intake sitting here but it will probably not be installed at this time.

BTW, is there a good tutorial somewhere on how to work with TunerStudio? I've read their Help section but did not get much out of it.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Load up one of my spark tables and race the car.

Ummm... thanks... I think

Seriously, I need an explanation of concept. Do I understand correctly that there are separate tables for fuel and spark?

BTW, here's my current tune file. Any thoughts?

Let me be honest, before dyno tuning or even racing the car - read all manuals you can:

Megasquirt MSEXTRA Manual Index

https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-sa...asquirt-13676/

This will take you some time (weeks I would say...) but after that you get the concept. I don't think it's possible to explain in 3 words, due to the complexity of the system...

Or do get someone to tune the car for you - because with the level of knowledge you have atm about the Megasquirt your engine will be gone faster than you think...

(I might be wrong, but that is just my feeling when I read this thread.)

Sven, I can't disagree with that feeling because I have the same feeling. That's why I ask the questions. Even as a former EE I have hard time understanding the concepts.

At the end of the day I've decided to give the car to the dyno tuner who's tuned a number of Megasquirts before, comes highly recommended and seems to know what he's doing. My questions were more on what to do before he gets teh car tomorrow. Talking to him and listening to you guys the answer would seem to be "do nothing, let a professional deal with it". That's fair, no problem. Thanks for confirming it for me!
