Retard timing via ECU vs CAS
 

Noob here.

I recently purchased a 95 Miata 1.8L and the previous owner advanced the timing via the CAS. Being that it is much hotter where I live compared to the previous owner (NC vs OH) and me not caring much for the reward of advanced timing versus it's risks, I want to set the car back to 10 degrees.

I was planning on boosting the car at some point, a MS is on my list of one of the first things to get. Does it make a difference for me to change the timing via the MS rather than reversing the changes the previous owner did on the CAS? Or is it OK for me to change the timing via MS and leave the CAS wherever it is now.

the position of the CAS doesnt matter... the MS will control the spark timing, not the CAS.

On a similar note for the time being, in the super dry and HOT california weather, I was able to run 15 degrees without issue.

It's so easy to do with a timing light, it would take you less time than it took to create this thread

It's even easier with a BT OBD-II reader if you have one on hand and simply watch the timing change via your phone as you move the CAS back to 10 BTDC. Done.

EDIT: I'm full of derp today. Only works with 96-97. Anyways, yeah, just break out a timing light and set it back to 10 BTDC.
