Rev Limiter doesn't seem to work

I have the rev limiter set at 7300, but last night while driving, I saw the RPM hit 74xx on megatune.

The soft limit is at 7000 with a max abs. timing of 10deg. Soft limit time is 5s and the hard limit is set at 7300 for a fuel cut.

Any ideas why this would let me rev past 7400?

I didn't change the base number or the cut n' sparks out of base number because I don't really know what they are, but they're set at 5 and 3.

I'm running the MSPnP tables with only minor changes here and there.

try it at like 3 or 4k and test it.

8k on your stock tach? If it is a 1.6 it is normal.

Not a direct answer to any of the questions here, but it is probably useful relevant information:

The stock tachometer in the cluster (at least for 90-97 cars, and I assume for 99-05 too) can be calibrated. There is a small potentiometer for calibration that can be accessed if the gauge is unbolted from the cluster housing (3 screws, I think)--be warned that even a tiny rotation of the potentiometer has a very big change on the tach sweep. In order to calibrate it properly you will need a reliable tachometer to compare it to (possibly using the laptop connected to MegaSquirt?).

i ordered a new 1992 ecu so we will see if it changes anything :skid:

I highly doubt it. I will redline my 92 today and see what the dash tach shows. I do know it is well over what it should stop at.

haha alrighty thanks. i needed a ecu anyways cuz mine fried due to its ground being disconnected:(

I think I saw my tech approaching 8k yesterday at an autox so I need to look into this ASAP. Wouldn't it bad to have a hard fuel cut-off when your boosting? I have my rev limiter for hard and soft set at 7200, soft limit absolute timing deg 10, soft limit max times 5s. I will lower the soft limit to 4500 and see if it works. Any thoughts?

Why didn't you just try it first? As stated earlier in the thread, your tach is inaccurate, so use your logs to see what's actually happening.

What the shit. How did this post from 2008 get necrod not just once, but twice?

On topic: 1st, you have a 90. 8k on the tach IS about 7100-7200. I have a 91, it's the same way for me man. Don't use a 1.6 tach for anything more than a vague, general rule of thumb - I can't recall a single scenario in which I've ever seen it be dead on, even at fucking idle.
