Default In search of MS1 3.0 help in San Diego

I am trying to install an MS1 3.0 into my 92 with an 1.8 engine. It was previously running on the 1.6 B6 ECU. After a small accident (off track excursion) the engine never idled correctly again. So fast forward to now. I assembled a DIY MSI 3.0 to instructions in conjunction with the megamanual. Got the ECU to work with megatune and a DIY stim jim. Never installed it into the car. Then I tried installing TSlite and now i can not connect. This may not be my only problem, as the ECU adapter harness appears to be missing a few wires @ DB37 and at the adapter end (compared to RayinNorca photos), or i did not add them in yet (EBC, WB02, and KNK wires). I have scoured the site for months, but at this point i just need to sit down with someone who has done this before. Hopefully someone local can give me a hand with this in exchange for lunch and of dinner plus ?. Or i can send this to anyone that would be willing to help (of course for a fee$).
The car has not been road worthy for almost a year and a half now due to the idle issues that i have not been able resolve, everything has been tried, to no success. Just need a few pointers and direction as i have hit a road block. Thank you for taking the time ti read this, and hope you have a great day.

Is the problem with it not connecting only happening on the car, or does it happen on the Stim too?

This connection works on the desktop with the stim. The ECU and TS light connected without even prompting to do so. The laptop is where i am having problems. with the laptop making the connection in the car i get nothing even with the stim (i think at this point the laptop need to be sorted out first). I will see if i can resolve this problem before i go back to the car. The connection with the laptop is on port 4 when i test the port, so it detects the ECU, But it just can not connect with the lap top. I will work on resolving the connection issue this evening and hopefully can make more progress then i did last night. Thank You Matt. Will keep all informed once i learn more.

Can you post a screen shot of what you get when you run Port Check on the laptop, with the ECU on a Stim?

Apologizing for being so noob here :(. Will do, the screen shot, but it will not be till much later after work.
Ok so a little progress last night. TS is working flawlessly on the desktop, but still not working on the laptop (same cable and adapter). I have reinstalled the TS on the laptop and the USB adapter drivers and portcheck, but still cannot comm with the laptop.
While tinkering with the Stim on desktop i lost the IDL light. Opened the MS case and discovered the wire with 470 resistor broke from D1 jumper to D9 banded side. Made the repairs (re-soldered) and IDL light and D14 LED will flash again with RPM inputs, but still no connection with laptop :( . Need to try a few more options tonight, but if anyone has any ideas of what i am doing wrong please let me know, i am wondering into uncharted territories here and will take all the help i can get.

I got the screen shot, but do not know how to post it. but the results: portcheck version 2.1 (December 2010) 0 valid ports found. Hit return when done...
Does this mean i need to change the ports around?

It looks like there's either some application hogging the port, or you don't have the port configured correctly.

So i can't get a valid port on this laptop, in the device manger it clearly showing port 5-8 are (in use) but i have no idea of how there in use, since i only have the Megasquirt plugged in. So what do i need to do to get a valid port? This laptop has had a external mouse, HP printer, crikcut plotter connected to it at one time or another. But nothing except the Megasquirt now. Do i need to delete some of the drivers? I don't want to delete something the wife needs, cause you all know i will never hear the end of it. I will keep researching it, but its been a difficult learning curve hear.

I know this is a PC issue and not a MS issue, but i am sure this will lead into a MS issue once i get pass this bump in the road.

In Device Manager, under Ports, does a new port appear when you plug in the USB-RS232 interface, and disappear when you remove it?

Yes, the Ports option appear when i plug in the USB adapter then a drop down to "USB serial port (COM 1)"
This is weird, but late last night after a comp restart did a portcheck. Now it says " COM1 Opened 9600 baud
No connection made.
115200 baud
No connection made.
1 valid port found.
Hit return when done..."

I will try and interface the ECU again after first light (sunrise), The ECU is in the car and its unbelievable dark and cold outside right now. tried to start car last night, but timing appears to be 180 out.

Ok so Portcheck gives me 1 valid port. I open tuner studio but no communication with adapter, RS232, and powered up stim. I open Communication Settings in the drop down and click "Detect" it comes back with:
Found Firmware: Unknown
Serial Signature: 20
On Port:COM1@9600 baud rate

Found:20 On Port:COM1@9600Baud

Device Search Complete! Controllers found:1"

I accept and re-enter Communication Settings, click "Test Port" and it Failed! so There is still something not right.

Communication Settings are:
Configuration: Red92
Driver: RS232 Serial (Default)
Port: COM1
Baud Rate: 9600

What am i doing wrong? when i plug the MS/ECU into the desktop is see it without doing anything, so when i open TSlite the MS/ECU is already connected and online, but not with this ASUS laptop :(

I have tried all the ideas in the "Megatune COM port problems" and i am looking for an old comp with a serial port right now. Well this leads me to the Original post is there someone locally that can give me a hand with this? I just stuck at this point. I know it will be something small and easy, but i don't know what it is. I have to run up to Oceanside this Saturday, maybe someone in the north county can help me out with this? Anyways thanks so far everyone, will keep you all posted once this is figured out.

I've heard of issues with usb adapters and MS1 before. Thankfully, my latest laptop came with a docking station replete with a serial port so I've never encountered the usb issue personally. Try an advanced search of the megasquirt sub-section of this forum using "usb" as your keyword.

Will do Six, and Happy New years all. Now that all the holiday stuff is over i can get back on the Car.
So I am still encountering Comm issues with the laptop. Spent a few days looking for a old used laptop /w win OS 95/98 and a serial port and was givin 2. Unfortunatlly both are not working :( . ACER travelmate 340 has a CMOS battery bad and real time clock setting failure. The IBM thinkpad will not even start up.
So i continued the comm issue trouble shooting inside the megasquirt. Even though i feel it was not the MegaSquirt i had to make sure. Started by checking the assembly instructions again. step 26 a-f which was good. then the power +5VDC at 1, 20, 31 to 2,19, 32 at the 40 pin and all had 5 VDC. then checked the MAX 232 chip and connections (comm converter/power supply) all point to the DB-9 checked out. The processor is functionally checked, but heres where im stuck. The code should be loaded on the MSV30BG chip correct? I would think so cause i can use TS on the desktop and manipulate the gauges with the STIM. The code on the chip if i recall is H10G. but i dont see and S.19 file and i never got the "Verification succeeded, 999 records total (4 skipped)." So the comm issues may be due to not have all the software loaded correctly? Or could this even be the problem? Maybe im just all screwed-up. Hopefully i can get some more direction on this from you all. cause i am still "dead in the water". right now :(

if there was no .s19 file in the folder you tried to flash firmware with, there was no file uploaded into the MS.

you can use this if GM ait sensor:

Index of /MS/msq/firmware/Standalone

Well, i copied the S.19 fil. Did not work, downloaded the 029y4a folder, but i am not able to install the firmware in DOS. im getting

Download failed:
Expected response "
Boot>",
but received this "",

I get this response with and without the boot jumper in place

The CurrentTune.msq is only 4.44KB in size, This appears empty, plus all folders in "Saved Tune" appear empty also.

What am i doing wrong?
No firmware installed? also having problems installing files to TunerStudio :(
