Rweatherford's Tune Log.... (help appreciated)

I was out logging and using VE Live the other day after fixing my AEM UEGO wiring issues.

Here are some graphs I created from bits of the data. Do these look ok on my setup?

I'm going to the first auto-x this season tomorrow and don't want to blow it up. I thought they looked pretty good, but not sure on the spark angle. Sorry I didn't get any higher on the RPM, but I had my 5 year old girl with me.

Thanks

I have several logs to go through, but I did bring home 1st place in the wet cold conditions in SSM. 35 psi in the front and 33 psi in the back seemed to work pretty well. Not a lot of competition today, but good for my first day back in auto-x. I won by 1.2 seconds. Ran with an S2000 and a Z06. Not sure what the Z06's problem was but it was facing backwards most of the day. I was pretty happy to not spin once. I did have a heck of a drift where I had to turn the steering wheel at least all the way around before I got everything going the right direction. (power rack, depowered, about broke my thumb off) Somewhere between a corner and a slolom entrance. Didn't lift much just steered into it.

I love this thing!

Personally, I would richen it up. At 6psi you are still at nearly 13:1 which IMHO is way too lean. I shoot for 12.5:1 at 100kpa, 11.5:1 up to about 5psi, and 11:1 above that. Some say it is too safe, I say it is still leaner than most OE's tune for :shrug:

Ok. I think my AFR target's are lower then that log showed for results, but I will check. Some more VE tune sessions might bring those sections down. The cells were probably up against the limits for that session. I'll have to change the wastegate so I can pick those areas up easier.

I would think that 13:1 AFR at 100 Kpa would be fine, but I agree that above 100 Kpa it should be richer.

Thanks.

hella rich...no reason to go richer than 11.5:1, you've reached the point of diminishing returns and you're simply wasting gas.

To me it looks perfectly acceptable.

Until I get my Det-Cans I will probably leave the high boost AFR alone for now. I can trim it back a little when I verify for knock. Should be fine, but you know.....

I have a few logs to go through, perhaps I can get those reviewed tonight.

I think the car gets about 32 MPG on the higway , but after 5 auto-x runs it registered 24 MPG. Had about 2/3 tank when I started runs and ended with about 1/3. :eek5:

After a short review of logs it is painfully obvious (like I didn't already know) that my accell enrichments are overly effective. What should the settings be for 460's? Any movment of the TPS and my AFR's are in the basement until the enrich goes away.

Current settings are:

Accell Trigger dot:
TPS Dot
sec
decay
0.0ms
Above KPa setpoint
101 Kpa

Accell enrich wizard:
TPSdot *^(DT)
0.977 v/sec
decel fuel amount 100%
Cold enrich 0.0ms
Cold Accell Multiplier 135%

TPS based AE:

1.0 v/s = 4.0 ms
2.9 v/s = 8.0 ms
5.1 v/s = 10.0 ms
8.0 v/s = 13.0 ms

Seems I also have RPM based enrich, which I am not used to.

RPM based:
RPM based
high 6000 RPM
mid - high 4200 rpm
low - mid 3000 rpm
low 1000 rpm

high speed 2.1 ms
mid-high 3.3 ms
low - mid 4.4 ms
low 6.2 ms
map thresh 90 KPa (don't use)
tps thresh 0.977 v/s (same as in wizard)
accel time 0.4 ms

Anything else needed? Is there an easy way to get this set right? Or do I just need to open the wizard and keep playing. Does the same TPS + RPM enrich work for both 80-100 kPa and 100-180 kPa? Basically can I tune it sitting in the driveway or do I have to be going on and off boost down the road. I would rather tune sitting still if possible.

Thanks. I'll try to do some reading in the mean time. ;)

rweatherford 03-16-2010 10:48 PM

I've been reading posts from 2007-08 and it seems confusing on which type of AE to use.

I have always used TPS based, but I can understand where TPS based could be bad for a turbo motor. I noticed in my logs that even though I am letting off the throttle to lower power output my MAP is actually increasing and RPM is increasing. Which is why I understand the TPS based Decel is turned off above 101 kPa to keep away lean spikes during these conditions in my logs.

So should I consider continuing TPS based below 100 kPa and the boosted regions will be fine during transitions due to going from below 100 kPa to above and the enrich will have already been triggered?

Should me accel timer be set for cycles instead of seconds?

Any tips on RPM based? Should it just be turned off?

Back to searching the interwebz... Someone can save me if they wish.... ;)

Braineack 03-17-2010 08:46 AM

just turn RPM off, and try tps based for now and see if it's good. you for sure have too much enrichments, with my 460cc injectors I think I inject 4.0ms at the highest most value...

rweatherford 03-17-2010 11:07 PM

Thanks :brain:. I appreciate you taking time to review these as I'm sure you are busy. I will make those changes and try again sometime. It's hard to make the time to try to tune the car when you don't drive it every day and have family stuff to do after work. It's easier to just read while the kids are in bed.

rweatherford 03-24-2010 10:08 PM

Ok I need a bit more help. I am not getting hardly any accel enrich now. Seems almost all of it was RPM based. I have turned off RPM based and now have these settings.

Accell Trigger dot:
TPS Dot
cycles
decay
0.0ms
Above KPa setpoint
101 Kpa

Accell enrich wizard:
TPSdot *^(DT)
0.977 v/sec
decel fuel amount 90%
Cold enrich 2.0ms
Cold Accell Multiplier 135%

TPS based AE:

1.0 v/s = 1.0 ms
2.9 v/s = 1.1 ms
5.1 v/s = 1.1 ms
8.0 v/s = 1.5 ms

This is causing some lean spikes when I am lightly stepping into the throttle, but acts better when the accel light goes green on MLV.

I am thinking that my TPSdot threshold is too high (0.977 v/s)

What are you guys using?

When I try to use the TPSacc graph it give wild numbers that don't relate to what I am trying to set.

After reading some more have I screwed up my accel by using "cycles"? How do I set how long the Accel lasts? I can't seem to find that.

I'll keep reading!

rweatherford 03-24-2010 10:25 PM

If I am reading it right the accel Time inside the accel enrich wizard is set to 0.4 which on decay will only be 4 ignition pulses. Perhaps I should set this to 2.0 which would be 20 revs (ignition pulses)

Here are the numbers for 0.4 seconds in revs.

2000 RPM / 60 seconds * 0.4 sec = 13 revs
2500 = 16 revs
3000 = 20 revs
4000 = 26 revs
5000 = 33 revs
6000 = 40 revs
7000 = 47 revs

So right now it's no suprise that I am basically getting no accell with only 4 revs of accel time and that tapers to 0.0 ms in only 4 revs.

And now it's raining.....

I would richen it up just a little from 0-8psi. I start at 13.8:1 at 100kPa...but it quickly drops down to 12.5:1 as boost starts rising, and is close to 12:1 by 6psi. Since you're at low rpms you have tremendous cylinder pressures to build that kind of load...and want to get rich very fast. That gradual curve from 14 to 12 between 2000-3250rpm should be a little steeper, and then hover around 12:1 til redline.

After that it looks too rich. Everything after 3750rpm can be tuned a little closer to 12:1. Richest I've ever run is 11.8:1 anywhere, and that was a bass boat smellin' conservative tune after the motor swap.

I am running WI, but most of the guys here would have a cow if they knew how lean I tune it, but I get over 30mpg with my foot in it half the time. I drive around with my det-cans a lot, and everything's kosher with a semi-aggressive timing map. Your timing looks great btw...I bet it hauls ass...just with a cloud of unburnt fuel behind it.

Ok I've gone over another log from the other night. Don't be too alarmed by the 2nd gear low RPM AFR. There is a delay with my AFR due to the UEGO being next to the tranmission. VE Live also added a few points of fuel in those areas, so it should be better. I have lowered my AFR table some at the 137 Kpa area to bring down the AFR's to 12.2 in that area to help the transition into boost be a little richer. May richen my 12 PSI area just a bit as it interpolates in that area. Can't wait to get my det cans.

Also this log has basically no accel enrich. Hope to fix that tomorrow night.
