So, car is running, went out to do some log runs.

It is getting lean in boost from what I can tell if I'm reading this right. Getting into high 13s at the top.

I am just running wastegate pressure which is 5psi, but it is spiking to 9-10 at higher RPMs because stuff like 3" exhaust and greddy wastegate.

I ran the log through the VE Analyze on Megalogviewer. The MSQ with the date in it is the result.

This is the log.

Not sure I'm doing myself any favors trying to tune in a car with boost creep.

Otherwise the car runs great. Idles well, starts up fine. Brainy built MS3 btw.

AFR in boost (between 4,000-7,000 rpm) is way too lean (several points where you were wot at 160 kpa and at 14 afr, NO NO NO). I'd start by highlighting all those boosted cells and adding 10 to your VE. It's better to be too rich in boost when tuning and let tunerstudio pull fuel instead of needing to add it.

Idle is too rich as well and fluctuates a bit, look into tuning that.

don't spend too much (or any, really) time in full boost without fixing your afrs though.

Well, it definitely added to the cells in boost when I ran it through VEAnalyze. I'll throw some more at it.

I think when boost spiked at times it went too lean.

Sure, but even doing 4-5 pulls at 14 afr's in boost is too many. This is why you just take your VE map, literally add 10 to the whole thing (except the idle rows), and then have VEAL do its thing. This way VEAL mostly will have to remove fuel. Running overly rich is way safer than running lean and detonating.

Edit: also, you might want to look into your VEAL settings as well and allow it to change the cells by a larger amount while it auto tunes. Once you have a rough map tuned in, you will make it stricter and fine tune your map that way.

Will do.

So basically everything from the 1200 column over just highlight and add 10? Er, probably not that. Sorta the third row and up and the third column and beyond?

I would take a gander at it but you have the files labeled current tune. Label it Harv or something

Harv 04-11-2014 01:10 PM

I ran it again, I think I'm going to add another 10 to the cells up top as I'm still in the 12s up top and I'd rather be in the 11s.

Does it do some internal labeling or something? I don't get why you can't rename the file? Not trying to be difficult, just wondering.

Sounds like you are on the right track, Harv. On a fresh tune I typically make it excessively rich (low 11's/high10's) in boost, THEN have VEAL remove the excess fuel and dial in the map to my target AFR's.

Yeah, obviously that varies depending on how much boost you add into the equation at various TPS and RPM levels, which seems really hard to account for on the road.

I think I might pay for some dyno time to get this all dialed in as some of the readings when I was getting the boost control figured out (stupid me I had the values reversed) last time were still high (14s) when it got up to 12psi or so and I really don't want to blow things up. I didn't really want that to happen, but because of my stupidity in figuring out the boost control issue I kept hitting the fuel cutoff. Luckily that is there.
