So I've got a MS...best way to mod/install it?
My friend was getting ready to MS his E30 318is but his motor finally decided to die and he is selling a lot of his turbo stuff to upgrade to I6 from a later year BMW...he is going to get rid of a lot of his turbo stuff and I want his MS.
It is MS1 V3 He already built it, but never 'modded' it. I sent an email to DIY about the extra parts I'd need since I have to order the IAT sensor and piggy anyway. -PWM idle mod -the mods to get spark working -etc He offered to finish building it for me for free if I can show him the way to do it. With out much knowledge of the miata, by using the write-ups on this site and the DIY autotune site could he do the mods? Also might be picking up an AEM UEGO... I also have to figure out the best way to actually wire this bad boy in...any suggestions guys, I want to have it clean...and easy...I'm taking my AC/PS out this weekend I think...for sure my A/C. I will be running it with stock injectors for a while. |
If adam can do mine from these sites etc. I am sure your freind can, do some reading your self so you can answer his questions yourself and give him the info to browse if he feels comfortable with it then why not.
|
the diyautotune instructions are all you should need. Read them word for word and go to the links on setting it up for a hall sensor too.
|
awesome.
I'll buy it from him and we will sit down and work on it...I'm stoked! |
Or you can do it like I did and build a harness to run the squirt standalone like I did (just finished and started tuning tonight!) I would take some pictures but my camera is out of order right now.

I really gotta look at this stuff in closer detail, I haven't checked out the wiring part much as I haven't gotten past the earlier stages...:( |
Guys, I'm getting ready to order the PWM idle mod, the random pullup resistors, IAT sensor, bung, and I have a tuning cable.
for wiring would you guys suggest? 2' of just the bundled wires and connect it myself or what? I don't have a lot of money, and I've got some time to play with it. Advice? |
Not alot of money= make your own harness, it's easy. Then just cut and crimp bullet connectors to the stock harness. Take control of one thing at a time and run with it. The 2' bundle makes it easy to know what wires are what without tags. You could just buy a spool of all the same colored wire though and put tags on it if you wanted to go real locost. $5 vs $18. I opted for the bundle, it comes with shielded ignition wire which is nice but not completely necessary.
|
the 2' bundle is 12 bucks + the DB37 connector which is freaking 9 dollars? Oh well, that'll do.
Thats what I think I'll do, go with the unconnected bundle since it has the shielded wire and they are colored...simplicity and troubleshooting ftw. I was talking to Neo about the bullet connectors, and I really like the idea of that. |
I used bullet connectors, it's easy that way, round is easier to route than square and they take up less space than standard spaded connectors. Lowes has a good price on them.
Weird that the guy didn't give you the DB37 connector. You can get them at radioshack but it won't be any cheaper and it will be plastic cased. |
damn..does it come with the MS unit? I don't have it, its across campus in his dorm, he is building it for me. so if it comes with it, then he has it and will include it in the sale.
EDIT: just checked, it includes the DB37 and the shell...nice. There is money I don't have to spend. |
Yeah they include everything at DIYautotune so you should be good to go. All you need is wire.
|
thats so Badass...go DIY. I just ordered the 2' bundle, Open IAT, Bung, and the mods. for $48
|
quick edit your order and add a boost control transistor!
|
damn, how?
which one is it? |
i went to ACE and bought a .99 cent 3/8" brass compression fitting....IAT screws right in....perfect bung.
|
now you tell me...I don't have an ACE anywhere near me though.
|
Lowes and other hardware plumbing shops carry those fittings as well.
|
well fuck me :(
|
If you ordered from DIY then just email them. They'll correct your order and charge you for the items you really want. Before you change your order, go out and make sure you can get the components first.
Being sunday, i figure you have untill tomorrow morning to make sure you have an email sitting in their inbox. |
