So I was shopping around for a pnp harness for a MS and I saw that SplitfireEFI sells a "complete" kit for MS on OBD1 miatas.

It seems comparable and maybe even more desirable than the MSPNP on account it seems to be all standard parts and stuff and since the connectors are standard you can maybe use it in another car later down the road. and its cheaper.

seems to come with everything I might need for an initial setup. Does anyone have any experience with one of their prebuilts or this kit in particular?

any thoughts?

Wow...good find. $500 and it has the AIT sensor. Companies seem to like doing PNP Miata ECU stuff. We are LOVED!

The connector itself is $20 from boomslang, cheaper elsewhere. If you can work on your miata you can make your own harness.

We do build non-PNP Megasquirt versions for the Miata, too, ones that will splice into the harness instead of with the case and plug.

I guess I dont understand what the difference between the MSPNP vs Just a MS with a harness.

MS PnP is a Megasquirt in a smart box that you buy and then straight away plug into your car and it works

MS & a harness you either buy pre-built, or you buy in component form and build. *Then* you need to cut and splice the stock harness into the premade MS harness. There isn't a miata plug on one end of the harness, it's just a DB37 and a bunch of labelled wires.

oh I do understand the difference, I thought there was more too it. so really the benefit is not needing a harness.

plus the PNP version has the additional/optional circuits already built. If I had ever built my own MS, I'd know what they are with more clarity, but I do know DIY provisioned for fuel pump, a/c, and ebc. There may be more, like I said I'm not up to speed.

If you're looking at a minimal to small difference in cost, I would absolutely get the PNP due to 1> ease and 2> support.

If the difference in cost is several hundred $$, then it's up to you. But consider time/hassle/cost factor in building the optional circuits.

Plus the guys that do the PNPMS have been around for ******* ever

This is exactly why I asked about the splitfire, the cost difference is about 225$ because theoretically it comes with "Everything you need to install MegaSquirt on your OBD1 Miata. Includes the ECU, all the instructions, necessary software, air temp sensor, vacuum hose, and the integration harness.", for 500$... the MSPNP is 700$ and I need to get the air temp sensor to.

so Im just trying to gather more info but yeah 225$ is alot to me. Im a DIY'r but I loath wiring.

I emailed them to get some more info but still waiting to hear.

But your forgetting the extra mods in that calc, and the basemap.

I think DIYAT will build you the same thing that spitfire does, (check out the prices see which is cheaper) compare apples to apples

Well remember to factor support too. I think once Jerry took 12 hours to email me. When he was at Speed Week in the desert.
Matt's also a smart cookie too, and has given me support.

Like Ben & Loki I could have build my own MS. But after reading through others' trouble shooting threads, I decided my time and sanity was worth a little extra.

to support my cheapness I used rubber radiator hose for couplers.

I have been but they(diyat) dont appear to offer a pnp harness as an option so that adds that unless I build one, plus the temp sensor, it rounds the corner very quickly. but yes Im looking at those options to.

thats why i asked here as well, but really based on what Im seeing the MSPNP is the horse to beat.


Im with you there, I dont know what vendors are better or not, so again why I asked here. but based on the fact that I got a response here day one and have yet to hear from splitfire efi, tends to support what your saying. Though I like to give at least a few days before I call it. I figure I emailed last night just before I posted here, and If I havent heard by tomorrow morning thats too slow for my liking.


as a side note I looked at boomslangs site and I dont see a MS harness or connectors listed. are their other vendors? I found splitfire while searching for a pnp MS harness
