Long awaited 99-00 MSPNP
So i just read on here sometime last week that DIY Autotune is in the Developmental stage for the 99-00 MSPNP. This is like the best miata news I've heard in months. Since I don't own an NA, let alone a MSPNP, I have a few questions on what this is going to be equipped with.
So let me get this straight. This is a Megasquirt inside a stock ECU sized case.
1) I remove my stock ECU, and the MSPNP bolts right up, and plugs right in?
2) I am currently running MS-1 in parallel with a CAS, so I could use my currrent CAS signal wires that go through the firewall, but since I will no longer use my CAS, I can use these wires for EBC?
3) I will be able to remove my stock O2 sensor and use only the LC-1?
4) I can eliminate my MAF?
5) Do I need to wire anything up for launch control, or is this part of the factory harness?
6) This will be made to work with ALL the stock 99-00 sensors?
And the last and final question:
What is the estimated time the MSPNP for 99-00 could be expected to be mass produced? My birthday is September 5th, and this could very well be one of the best birthday presents I ever bought myself!
This would also be a great group buy (hint, hint).

For my money, ONBOARD WIDEBAND is worth whatever the cost. I hate wiring ****, especially when it involves finding yet another ground and 12volt source. A standard Bosch sensor with a 5ft cable that plugs directly into the MS... now you're talkin! Some people have great luck with the LC1's and others have nothing but problems, even properly grounded and what not.
Just go to the DIY website and look at the features list of MSII. It should do everything (at least) that the MSII does now. It would only be a PnP if you could simply unplug the current ECU and plug in the MS.
Things like working with the stock sensors and MAF delete go without saying. I don't know what you had to re-wire with the CAS to get your MS1 to work, but you'd probably need to convert the harness back to stock if you hacked it somehow.
Launch control is a software function I believe... no need to wire anything if you've already got EBC. There are several threads of people already using the launch control software.
I ran a standalone MS for about 2 years and had great luck. The only thing it didn't do 100% to my linking was the EBC. The open-loop stuff was too unpredictable and succeptible to atmospheric naughtiness.
What it needs are tables with enough fidelity for good fuel and spark (it already has), onboard wideband, dual-map closed-loop EBC, plenty of inputs and outputs, USB connectivity, and basic improvements in performance that I'm sure DIY has been getting feedback on in large quantities.
Things like launch control and boost-per-gear functions do not interest me, but some people who can't drive a stick very well like that ****.
In any case, I can't wait.

That's one area where I tend to disagree. Reading a wideband sensor is a fair bit more complicated than a narrowband. Unless they are going to license Innovate's design for the LC-1 (which I doubt), I prefer to be able to use a system which I know to work well. Not just the LC-1 itself, but the XD-16 as well. So given that whatever car I'm driving I'm gonna end up purchasing and installing an LC-1 / XD-16 combo anyway, why pay the extra money for onboard wideband that's just going to sit there?
And c'mon- it takes four wires to hook up an LC-1. It's not like it's a major undertaking.

From the standpoint of personal speculation, I expect that the MSM constitutes too small of a market to merit an MSPnP of its own. If one were made for the general '03-'05 cars it would work on the MSM as well, but those cars won't likely be getting a PnP until VVT control is worked out.
