Starts and then dies...
Hey guys,
Been a long time since I was on here, been dealing with getting divorced, moving, getting a new job, etc... Anyway, my Miata is a loyal stead that is in need of some TLC. If I charge the battery up, and turn the key it cranks over fine, starts, and then dies. The main symptom I notice is that it sounds like the fuel pump shuts off when the key is no longer turned... then as soon as the fuel in the rail is used up (a couple seconds) the engine dies. I re-loaded my megasquirt map in case something in the programing got corrupted from having the battery dead for an extended time, and no change... Is there a simple way to jumper the fuel pump so it stays running? If that is possible, (and the car runs that way) it will allow me troubleshoot further to find out why the pump is shutting down. Any thoughts on what else I should look for? Thanks, Keith |
Is your fuel pump healthy?
You can do output test on fuel pump before starting to see if it powers on consistently or if it falters. Mine does the same, and I wonder if it's the car dealing with a voltage drop after start before the alternator adds juice |
what's the wideband say in your datalogs?

Just an FYI on my fuel pump problems. Had several pumps go bad and couldn't figure out why. Eventually found that my in tank assembly connector was loose and causing intermittent connectivity. The connector goes through the top of the assembly and somewhere inside that connector there was a problem. I got another fuel tank assembly from Maz-Mart and the connector was solid with no movement. This fixed my problem.
