Stock 1.6 TPS on MS3/MS3x
 

I feel like I'm overthinking this but in Frank's guide it says "If you have no variable tps, then install a 1K resistor on your tps input wire to ground."

The way I interpret this is, "don't connect the TPS signal wire from the ECU to pin 22 on the MS main board. Instead, use a 1K resistor to connect pin 22 to a ground source somewhere on the Megasquirt."

Is this a correct interpretation? Can I just jump pin 22 to pin 8, for example (or any other of the "chassis ground" pins)?

Yes, that is all you need to do. It is a constant resistance source, it will make the megasquirt think the throttle never changes. You'll want to "teach" it zero by calibrating the closed throttle value when you finally get the laptop hooked up and running.
