Strange project.... will MS work the way i am hoping for it to run?

I am building a mega-low-budget build with shit that i mostly have.

The build will consist of a Pontiac 400ci engine in an FC shell along with a few other trick parts to make all of it legal for race-only use.
I will be fabbing up a 100% new intake manifold for fuel injection and i want to control spark with MS too.

From what i understand, if i have a crank trigger wheel and sensor as well as an IAT sensor i should be able to do all of this?

Is it possible to get sequential fuel and spark on the V8, or would it be banked injection and spark?

I will be getting more information as the project continues but i hope to get the ball rolling on the drivetrain setup.

You can have sequential fuel and spark, but you need to buy a MSIII daughter card.

Ms1 will be bank injection, MSII can do semi-sequential on a V8.

A standard crank trigger wheel I.e. 36-1 will get you going, but you need a cam trigger for sequential injection.

how would you run a cam trigger on a pushrod v8? LOL

a 36-1 wouldnt be enough since there is no cam advance or something similar to VVT?

The stock distributor is driven off of the camshaft. If you lock out the mechanical advance it will stay true. Use a double roller timing chain for less stretch and therefore more accurate timing.

If you do a good job with the intake manifold I might want one also. My Pontiac 455 needs Megasquirt one day.

Cam, see sixshooters comment.

a 36-1 is plenty, but if you want to run more teeth fine. Cam advance/VVT is irellevant fitted or not, they're actuated on the CAM not the crank :fawk:

So cam phasing would show the ECU that it is in compression phase and the trigger wheel would tell the ecu what degree of rotation the engine is in?

or have i not gotten the concept yet? i was under the impression since the cam timing is locked with the crank by the timing chain that a trigger wheel mounted i could offset the missing tooth so that the ecu could fire cylinder XX at 1.25 teeth past TDC from strictly the crank wheel.

That's exactly correct what you say. But that doesn't preclude 36 teeth on the crank from not being enough.

Lots of pushrod V8s have a trigger wheel spun by the cam. It's usually under the distributor. ;)
There are also a few that have honest to goodness cam angle sensors and run distributorless ignition (Explorer V8 and GM LSx for instance)

VVT is not common in a pushrod V8, though there is 1 that I know of, and possibly others I don't.
