Supercharger noise
Well. I finally got my megasquirt up and running. And damn it runs smooth.
All of the sudden my Jackson Racing Eaton m45 supercharger started making a loud clunking noise. I think this is the end of the road for me. Is anyone interested in my fully operational MSII? What could I sell that for? What does a supercharger that is less than operational go for? |
17 posts, one issue, and already you are quitting? I smell a Chevy Astro in your future.

Its probably just the coupler inside the nose, I from what I remember from my SC days, it was inexpensive and could be done DIY.

Maybe if it really is an easy fix and save me. The hard part for me is it's a series of really bad luck. A combination of previous owners and bad mechanics that did serious damage while doing simple tasks. I've sunk a few thousand in and really don't have any cash to go further. I haven't been able to drive in over a month. The daily grind has really taken a toll. |
No such luck.. The coupler is fine. Here is a video of the noise

There isn't a lot to fail inside that charger. Six bearings maybe and the coupler. But if you're really upset over it, sell it to me for cheap. I've got $100 at least. :)
Edit: I forgot the useful info, pull it and pop it open it will probably be immediately obvious what is wrong and cost maybe $100 to fix it. |
THere was actually a thread on m.net about doing disassembly of the SC and poke around for the bearings. Supposedly it helped
You should pull the belt, and see what happens when you turn the nose... feel for slop in the couple.... or it's possible one of the bearings is going. However, you can get it rebuilt if you really need too. Dave, |

Damn.. I hate how the community is always right. I broke down the supercharger and found the culprit bearing. I've got a rebuild kit on the way. I don't know how jackson can insist on a professional rebuild that I got a $900 quote from. This stuff looks pretty simple to me.
Thanks to all for talking me down from the ledge.. |
Where'd you get your bearing rebuild kit? Is the Jackson SC based on the Eaton m45? I have one from my deceased Mini with bad bearings. It'd be cool to rebuild and perhaps convert the Seven to twin-charged. Either that or one turbo Seven and one SC Seven.
