Swapped 460's now idles at 3 grand, wtf?

So I threw my 460's in tonight, then I took my required fuel from 13.2 to 6.9. Then I turned the key. The car started right up, but it idled at 3,000 RPM. I did break the vacuum T for my blow off valve off when I took the top 1/2 of the intake off to yank my fuel rail. I plugged it though, and then it idled at 2200 RPM, perhaps I have another vacuum leak? Anyone ever have this happen?

Most likely a vacuum leak at the injector grommets, intake manifold gasket, or a forgotten vacuum line such as the little nipple on the back of the intake manifold.
Use brake cleaner to isolate which location it is by spraying it around each injector and the flanges of the intake mani.

Problem solved. You can ad this the the most dumbassed wrenching mistake section. My new injectors didn't have those round disc like spacers that go on before the pintle caps. I had to yank my 460's back out and rob the little plastic things from my stock injectors. It now idles, drives, and does everything like it should. I love doing the same job more than once because of my errors, NOT.

that is such a suckass job with a 99+ intake manifold too.

God bless my BEGi intake manifold. To pull injectors the only bolts you have to remove are those holding the fuel rail.

Are you talking about the stock grommets that go around the pintle caps on the injectors?

When I put my RX7 550cc ones in the stock ones were a bitch to get on their and cracked a bit. Not all the way through.

Where can I find replacement that will fit?

johndoe 03-15-2009 08:21 PM

I either got mine from the place that did my injector cleaning or from Rosenthal Mazda. I don't remember but either place would have them.

miatamania 03-15-2009 11:01 PM

I'll figure it out.

I wonder why the 1.6 ones didn't quite fit perfectly. The 1.8 ones fit perfect?
